Cleans are actually improved. Just make sure the “pull gain cut” control is pulled. And you can adjust how full or chimey the cleans are by adjusting the tight control. I like it set really low on clean channel. The 3 way low end switch also affects the orange / clean channel.
I have before and after of the same amp. I’m not 100%, but I think the before is with iPhone and after is with an SM57. I hesitate to post it in anticipation of the, “…it’s not the same” comments.

BE and HBE should be equally affected. All signal from the preamp runs to the MV.

To test all you need is one alligator clip. Clip one side to the treble pot wiper and the other side to the input lug of the master volume pot. It’ll bypass the resistor and you’ll hear how it sounds without it.
