    Mesa Mark III

Anyone know the details of the three common mods talked about in these discussions: + ++ R2 I think that's right. Someone let me know if I'm wrong. Just curious as I can't image these mods are that involved and these circuit boards look pretty simple to work on, if perhaps a bit of a PITA to...

    Mesa Mark III

Me too on the SD-1. I've tried a pile of various OD's (and built a ton of OD's, fuzzes, and distortion boxes) but almost always return to the trusty old SD-1 in the end.

    Mesa Mark III

I don't know about alternative, but I like the rhythm set for crunchy and then kick it with an OD to tighten it up and get it a bit gainier. Really, the classic SD-1 does great for this.

Talk me in to/out of a Jubilee 100

Like most of my opinions/advice, it's old! I had a couple of original Silver Jubilees (2553 short head 50W w/ matching 2x12 and 2555 long head 100W w/ matching 4x12) and later a Slash sig. They were cool amps, and at that time had pretty decent effects loops. (Nothing remarkable in anything in...

How are you guys using fuzz pedals?

The early fuzzes generally have low input impedance, so they load the (relatively) low output pickups of the era. That means they're extremely reactive to the guitar output and volume changes. That's part of what makes them so finicky with equipment too, but also what makes them so interactive...

Soldano HR100s and Decatones: Current thinking?

One thing I'm seeing in this thread is conflating the HR100 with the HR100+. They are not the same preamp. The HR100 is basically the modded Marshall 2203: the mod Soldano was already doing in house to purchased 2203's but he just built them up from scratch. They sound like a Marshall on...

    What's your oldest guitar amp?

I have an early 70's Fender Vibro Champ that might also be the oldest I've owned. I'd have to go look up dates for certain to see whether any of my Marshalls I used to own were earlier or later - close regardless. My most played "early" amp was my '79 Marshall 2203, which was my main amp for...

    My 1st USA JACKSON... Wow!!

I have an '87 Jackson strat and agree it's one of the siky-smoothest necks I've ever played. Mine is set up as S/S/S with Bardens, so it's my actual strat, just with a pointy headstock and a original Floyd. They may not be cheap, but they're much cheaper than the earlier San Dimas era Charvels...

    Anyone had a Chandler guitar?

I don't believe I have an Chandler bodies about now. I may have a neck, but I think all the spare bodies are other manufacturers.

Interesting way to set up a SLO 100

Yep. The SLO is essentially a hot-rodded Marshall. The HR series lean a bit more that way, but it's all small percentages.

    Post yer Charvel / Jackson

I love maple fretboards with black sharkfins.

Amp crimes: Retolexing an amp in rat fur

That's exactly what that stuff turns into too! I had a pair of those ADA 2x12 vertical cabs that came covered in the same stuff.....and my cats had a field day with it. I will say it doesn't show the damage too badly, despite the amount of attention they gave it.

    Post yer Charvel / Jackson

No. I'm pretty sure that was an '86 Jackson, not a Charvel. It also looks to be a solid paint job, so probably poplar or alder body, and a different electronics setup. (Just looked it up.) Mine came as a trad strat trem, later changed to Floyd. When I got it, it had part of a cig pack as a shim...

    Post yer Charvel / Jackson

It has hands-down the very best neck I've ever played on a guitar. It's not just a looker, though the solid flame maple body is very pretty. It was my main guitar for about 10 years and then I retired it to home/studio ..... nearly 20 years ago. Dear lord do I feel old saying that!

    Shipping Delays

In the last week, we've also been suffering delaying winter weather throughout much of the country, including the central hubs in the middle of the country. In the bigger picture, probably holiday. Wouldn't surprise me if labor shortages are affecting shipping too.
