Just wanted to chime in and say that I also preferred the 2203X I have to an 83' 2203 I had for a bit, for all the reasons you mentioned...

Just recapped a 1985 2203 with JJ caps and sounds huge now. Big and full

I recapped a 2204 with JJ caps. It made the amp more clear and present.

So your talking about adding 3 more caps? What would the wiring look like?

Ha your tech is quick! More volume means the old ones were definitely knackered. Did you go to the old 2203 spec? Still on 6550’s?

Cap job completed. Noticeably louder, fuller but still SLIGHTLY prefer the 2203x but it's much closer now
