Suggestions or ideas for tightness control?

The circuit started out as an exact copy of the SLO circuit and I have been tweaking it little by little to get it where it works for the way I play and what I am going for. I love all types of amp tones and really dig everything from early classic rock to the most brutal modern metal tones I...

    Who Builds Custom Turret Boards?

LOL I found humor in the use of a healthy relationship book to hammer turrets! I feel like my relationship with guitar gear and amp modding/building isn't very healthy. The board looks cool btw. I hope to do a turret board build one day.

    Who Builds Custom Turret Boards?

I'm actually interested in this and PCB layout. I have DIYLC but is there an equivalent for pcb layout. I'm not even close to ready but I want to practice and maybe start with a couple small items. Is there a program that will suggest component layouts based on schematic or is it a more manual...

Suggestion for alternate value for cap

Is there a reason the polystyrene are suggested as opposed to other composition? I know certain circuits can benefit from certain types of component materials but were those suggested specifically for a reason?

Circuit Analysis - 27 videos - Very cool stuff here

I agree! It’s great to have resources available from people that know their stuff, I know the internet has plenty of negatives but I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without a lot of the technical info like we have now. Somehow I missed out on forums until about 10 years ago.

Suggestions or ideas for tightness control?

I’m looking to add a global tightness control circuit to my amp. My initial idea was a 3 way tightness switch to change the coupling cap value after the first gain stage and instead I was thinking of implementing a low cut pot after the first stage coupling cap. I figure a .047 for the coupling...

Help choosing screen and PI filtering values

Currently still tweaking my Jet City 50H with custom preamp voicing mods. Started as an SLO spec mod and have tweaked values to be more modern, easier to play, and tighter. The stock screen filtering is 50uF and the PI filtering is at 68uF. I’m wondering if lowering or raising the values might...

SLO Post Tone Stack FX Loop mod.

Yeah the stock loop recovery stage on the 50/100 JCA amps is the first half of V4 before the mod and the mod I got for it, which was something I bought early on in my amp modding journey uses the first half of V3 as the recovery stage which has a 1uF already. The mod moves V4 and the tone stack...

SLO Post Tone Stack FX Loop mod.

Thanks for the info and photos! I’ve actually done the mod before a few times. I also did it on my 100hdm and again now on my 50H which I modded to slo spec. Reason I posted the question is because the 4th gain stage is swapped from V3 to V4 and there should be a bypass cap on the 4th gain...

    Awesome thanks for the info.

SLO Post Tone Stack FX Loop mod.

Awesome! My question is how did it work for you and also did you just swap the stack and loop or did you alter v3/v4 to accommodate the changes?

SLO Post Tone Stack FX Loop mod.

I don’t have a completed schematic for it. I will see if I can make one in the next couple of days.

SLO Post Tone Stack FX Loop mod.

I have a mod to move the SLO/Jet City effects loop after the tone stack. In this mod V4 and the Tone stack take the place of V3 making the first half of V4 the 4th gain stage. Since the 1st half V3 was a 1.8K cathode with a 1uF bypass cap & V4 has 2.2k cathode without a bypass cap should I...

Buzz/Hum on V2 of SLO mod.

Well the noise issue is gone! We were having power issues in the neighborhood and after talking to my neighbor apparently we had low voltage which I somehow missed on my power conditioner input meter. Today the voltage came back up to 117 and the noise is gone. Not sure how or why that would...
