Took the plunge and used my FM9 instead of Tube head -Vid

Up until the tube crisis I had been taking the full 100w head and 4x12 cab to all my gigs but this last weekend we had a casino gig with quality pa so i opted to take the Fractal. No complaints from anyone on the band and the house had no idea it was not a real amp. Was it as good as my BE 100w Dlx or slo 30 -heck no, but it worked!

Outdoors I will use the big boys but wanted to share some live clips. Longest part is during the sound ck, but the end has some live clips from the house which are hard to come by.

Dude, that sounded great and your leads are on point! I think Fractals can get something like 95% the way to tube amp sound/feel when set up well. How are you using yours? Presets for each song or blocked like a more traditional rig using the same amp/cab with effect assignments as needed? I have an FM3 and I'm so jealous of the FM9's ability to mix amps in the same preset.

Hey, thanks for the compliments! The sound ck solo was while running up stairs to hit the boost so impromptu lol! t's pretty straight forward Plexi amp with a little delay and verb. really about finding the right IR. If you want the pre set send me a pm for my e-mail.

Cheers!

Sounds great. I’m looking for something to 4CM with my rig for simplicity and the boss stuff sounds great but you can hear aliasing that the fractal stuff doesn’t have.

These are rare clips to come by - DI with a nice PA and in an actual band mix.

Killer playing and thanks to all of the guys for allowing a recording!

What wireless do you like to use?

That sounded very good!! I've been using fractals live for years now with my cover band. Started with the AX8, then the AxeFx3 and now the more convenient FM9. The practicality of it cannot be denied. The FM9 in its case with one expression pedal for wah, my Mono dual guitar bag with cables and wireless and I am one trip from my car and set up in 5 minutes with an XLR to the front. We have some bigger outdoor things this summer and I still am planning to use the Fractal rig, but may bring two small FRFR monitors just for myself. The thought of playing a big outdoor stage with a 4x12 and a 100 watt head is very alluring, but then I think about the pedalboard, switchers, the worry (I know, minimal but still), etc...and the FM9 sounds like a win-win. I have an Atomic Amplifirebox in the trunk of my car at all times, which would provide a simple backup should my FM9 somehow fail.

Thanks and agreed, there are not many convincing clips out there to hear what these units can do live in a mix. Live Boss WL20 which does not have much range. In this clip I used a cheap Amazon one. Gerizon or something like that.

So many great tools out there to use these days. Wish we had all of this stuff back in earlier years!
I've switched to the Fractal stuff back in 2018 and haven't looked back. I still get the itch to get a tube amp here and there but realize that I'm good with the simpler setup and a bit less gear to carry to gigs and rehearsals.

The main thing is that when you are playing live, especially in a cover band, no one gives a crap what you are using. They are there to listen to some tunes and hit the dance floor.

Did my first show with the II XL last Saturday. I got compliments on the tone. I was using the HBE model. I honestly think using in ears helps with the transition. I was already used to the amp to being as loud on stage. So the Fractal didn't really feel different. I do eventually want to get an FM9.

IEMs really negates the need for a massive stage rig like I was using. I will still use my Tube heads outside for our larger areas we perform. Indoors the FM9 works great for me though.

Well ---In light of the fact that most people watching cover bands don't know the bass player from the guitar player from their ass I don't know why everyone doing that wouldn't use modelers. I don't care for them myself but Fractal stuff is as good as it gets and with advancing age , traveling light is not a bad thing !! LOL

Really love your tone man, nice and thick with full mids. Congrats! (playing killer too)
