Couple things:
The closest Mk 3 to a C+ is the no/black stripe, and that’s only if it had the leftover 105PT. The preamp of any 3 is going to be far different. So early into the 3 production they used up the last of the 105PTs, and that was during the No/black stripe run.
That said, I had a Purple and Red stripe 3 at the same time….internet lore says the Red is most like a C+…. But that Purple Stripe killed the Red in every way.
Bump

Definitely a beast, but I'd still like to see if someone else wants to give it a good home before I rip it apart and turn it into a head. I just think it may not get much use given my current tastes.

Would really like to try a higher gain Friedman or another Uberschall or something along those lines.... Wink wink lol

Don't have a dog in the race, but Red stripe being closest Mark 3 to a C+ comes from Mike B

One way or the other, it's a killer sounding amp, just not adding much to the arsenal I already have. I won't be unhappy if it stays with me though, I'll just make a head shell for it and let it sit. Just don't think it'll get much use and that's a shame.

Mike B is good people. Maybe the preamp is slightly different in the Red…but it didn’t sound very close to the SRG C+ I had. Guys that have no/black stripe 3s and C+s say they are pretty close but not quite there. Either way I wouldn’t buy a 3 thinking it’s gonna cop a C+ tone. It won’t.

I'm not questioning anyone's personal experience. At the end of the day, this particular example sounds like a great Mark amp should, sustains for days, exhibits no old amp "issues", hasn't been hacked or modded and is in pretty good shape for it's age. Would just like to see it go somewhere where it'll get more use than I'll get.

I edited the first post because it feels like it's becoming a debate instead of a for sale ad.
