1. Poll is messed up. I'd remove it.
2. Yeah, along with 1984 I will throw out Invasion of your Privacy
3. (insert meme)

Yeah, Pride has great tones and great playing, totally solid album. Wasn't he using those ADA preamps then? I'd never even heard of those things back then. I wasn't a tone chaser in those days and my old GK 250ML did everything I wanted back then. I still gig with it too.

That's the rumor but didn't sound like an ADA to me.

Exactly I bought one when they came out, there were ads for them in all guitar magazines. I couldnt get anything worth a shit out them and i swear I paid a grand for one new. Mind you marshalls used were $350 i felt ripped , put in the closet and gave it away in the 90`s. I still dont believe Pornograffitti is an MP1

Maybe they are being used into front of another amp, like a Marshall?

I had a friend that ran an Ampeg (VT22 maybe?) into the front of his JCM800, it sounded huge.

ULAK...that was it for me.

Loved WS, love Sykes but it wasn't something I was looking to cop exactly. I like the in your face of Lynch's tone on ULAK vs the wider spread of Sykes.

I'd say for my 80's tone it would be -

Dokken - Under lock and Key
Ratt - Invasion of your Privacy
Dokken - Back for the Attack

Not that it’s a bad tone, and it was certainly different and cool for the time, but Sykes’ lead sound on the 87 album isn’t as good as his rhythm tone IMO. The leads at times are a little too edgy sounding. The one Vandenberg solo on the whole album sounds better (and is more memorable and musically interesting - as much as I love Sykes).

The 87 tone is bitchin provided you can bump the mids a bit and play it extremely loud. At normal volume it’s very meh. Pride is also super cool and unique given it’s a Marshall with a boost (from what I’ve heard). Love the thickness and crispness on both those albums.

I believe Big Game was an ADA. Pride was 2203, TS9 and a modded Fender Strat, to my knowledge
