Wolf Van Halen addressed online accusations that he was taking advantage of a famous "band name" simply because he also carries the name Van Halen, after which he jokingly ran a survey about a possible surname change with the option "Wolfgang Led Zeppelin" ending as the winner.
The 32-year-old musician has really been put through the wringer for being Eddie Van Halen's son over the years, and the hate comments still seem to be flowing in.
In recent times, Wolf has been accused of faking his stellar performance of Van Halen classics at the Foo FIghters' Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts last year and that he "hated" his father's band because he refuses to play their songs on a regular basis (which, by the way, he doesn't want to do exactly so as not to ride on Eddie's coattails), but the most recent accusation definitely takes the cake.
At the risk of stating the obvious, it's worth noting that Wolf performs under Mammoth WVH and not "Wolfgang Van Halen', which makes the claim all the more absurd. The Twitter user wrote:
In a series of response tweets, Wolf wrote:"If a person wants to make a name for themselves they wouldn’t take advantage of their famous father’s last name and band name.
"His father and uncle didn't have that. Everyone in the band didn't have that. Matter of fact, majority of current and former bands and singers didn't have that."
"Van Halen is literally my fucking name you grape.
"You guys understand Van Halen is literally a name. Like way before it was a band. Right? That good ol' American rock and roll you love so much was written by a Dutch immigrant named Edward Lodewik Van Halen, not some dude changing his name to sound cool and 'rock n roll' and shit?"
