NEW MGL100 Getting Close!

Wanted to post some info on the new MGL100 that will be available soon. It's a project that we've been working on in collaboration with Jimmy Burkard who does our demos. Jimmy's become part of the amp family and lends another great set of ears and hands to help with voicing and the feel of the amps. He's a working guitar player so we also get good feedback from the amps going out and playing gigs.

So like our other amps, the new 100w pulls from the 3 great Marshall eras, Plexi, metal panel & JMP-JCM 2203 along with our own circuit ideas. Some appointments are not 100% solidified yet but this is pretty close: Custom made .090" aluminum chassis from a local metal shop, powder coated gloss black w/ metallic silver screened text, 2 channel master volume that share the tone controls, 2 Masters & 2 Gains, since each amp will be built to order, customers will have the choice of a dirty and clean channel or 2 dirty channels, amps are hand wired turret board construction, each amp will have 8-10 real mustard caps in the circuit, other caps will be SoZo, custom paper wound & layered Plexi spec Heyboer MGL100 transformers, custom wound Dagnall MGL choke, Metropoulos "Zero Loss" effects loop w/ true bypass switch, 4-EL34 power tubes & 3-12AX7 preamp tubes, like our 50w there's a voicing switch on the back that has to do with negative feedback, also a switch on the back to engage a saturation circuit, there are a few mini switches on the front panel. The first will choose between 2 different caps for the treble control, in the "VIN"(vintage) setting it will use a real NOS Lemco red dogbone cap and in the "MOD"(modern) setting a ceramic disc cap, another switch will give a choice between 2 different caps for the first position in the circuit, in the "VIN" position it will be a real mustard cap and in the "MOD" position a SoZo. The first cap in the circuit really sets up the overall voice of the amp. The 3rd switch will set preamp tube bias, in the "VIN" position it's a Plexi value and in the "MOD" position it's metal panel -JCM value. Below are pictures of the front and back panels with parts installed to see the layout.

Looks cool!
Have you considered negative feedback controls?
-to change the bottom end feel & shifts
the frequencies, dial in juicy presence on a bright top-end,
-this is what players want nowadays,
ESPECIALLY after they experience what those controls can do as opposed to another channel or boosts.
EQ in any era & herds more with the right guitar & touch.
Let it rip!!!!!

All of our amp do have 2 fixed positions for negative feedback. That’s what the voicing switch is on the back. The switch determines which tap on the ohms selector the negative feedback enters. Personally, I don’t care for adjustable pots in the feedback loop. Always changes the tone in a negative way to my ears. I feel the same about adjustable resonance pots. Even at the same exact value, a fixed value resistor always sounds better to me.

The first MGL100, which is Jimmy Burkard's amp, is making noise and sounding great! Jimmy flies into Boston tomorrow morning to hang with us for a few days to finish the final voicing on the amp circuit. Just got head cabs and a matching 4x12" speaker cab from Jeff Swanson yesterday. Great looking cabs from Jeff as always. We are super happy with how this project is coming out and the amps will be available for order soon!

Absolutely! Will probably post some phone clips over the weekend or Monday. We'll get some while Jimmy's here. Once his amp is completed, we"ll ship it to him once he's back in LA and then he"ll start working on some cool demo videos.
Cool! Looking forward!
