Interesting Marshall Mod…Metalhead and Lee Jackson

I saw that too, definitely a cool amp. I always keep an eye out for other Elan/Metalhead mods, I have an ‘88 2203 he did that absolutely crushes.

I wish the seller had included a clip of the amp in the ad. Even though most of Elan’s mods look the same he wasn’t always consistent with the components he used (or didn’t use) so they don’t all sound the same. Usually Elan didn’t mess with the main board much and most of his mod was contained before it, in this amp it looks like some component changes might have been left in place from when Lee worked on it before him. It doesn’t appear to have the push-pull bass boost option either.

From the ad description it was previously owned by Carlos Salazar of the band Relative Ash. I just pulled up first song that Youtube spat out and it's a cool tone.

I don’t know man, those amps sound like dogshit.
Go ahead, buy one and hear for yourself.
You’ll likely have to get it modded.
It eventually surfaces..
“You can’t put lipstick on a pig”.
The donor amp is more important then the modification.
Where does that leave you?
In a frustrated state of “Metaltronix”..
-sounds about right.

My very first modded Marshall was a Lee Jackson 2204. Sounded very good; retained more of the stock sound than any other modded Marshall I’ve owned. Damn good sounding amp; far far from the ‘buzz fest’ that his Ampeg, Metaltronix amps could sound.
