Bonamassa is wierd

Not a massive fan, but I do think he's an exceptional player. Plus anytime a guitarist is successful, in any format, it's a win for music in general I reckon.

There's plenty of terrible, synthetic, soulless music around that features little or no traditional instruments. Joe is using nice toys, with a good band, and seems to genuinely enjoy his work. What he wears whilst doing it is not something I've ever cared about.

Man, lotta haters! I love his stuff with Black Country Communion (they just finished recording a new album). When he’s paired with Glenn Hughes he’s a lot more edgier and hard rocking, and I think having Hughes helps elevate the song writing when they’re together.

But yeah his solo stuff just doesn’t do it for me. Ballad of John Henry and Sloe Gin are his best. Newer stuff is very generic, boomer blues rock, but props to him for taking control of his career, doing what he loves, making good money, buying cool gear.

Like to see him team up with another good lead man/songwriter other than Hughes.

Must be a TGP thing. I wouldn’t see him solo, but maybe at like a festival or G3

Joe is awesome! For me his first two solo albums were the best, A New Day Yesterday and So it's Like That. One of my friends played keyboard in Bloodline with Joe and another local guy played bass on A New Day Yesterday. I loved the Bloodline album, second one was great too but never released. That one was recorded in a warehouse in town. I thought Joe was all done when Bloodline ended, boy was I wrong! Joe is a HUGE gear guy. His dad had a guitar store an hour from me where Joe grew up. Joe does his own thing and doesn't really need to worry about what people think these days.

a fucking baseball with his silhouette on it in a case. if there was ever doing your own thing not worried about what others think, that is it. you gotta respect, i dont give a shit if his elevator blues sucks

I get what you guys are saying.. I DO like his love of guitar collecting and that he uses them live.. I also like his approach to a live sound with amps on stage and loud volume. He's not a cork sniffer, even though he bought a few dumbles..lol He freely admits the whole eric johnson thing..lol

Overall, he plays well and he can sing. Not many solo guitar players left out there
What Eric Johnson thing?

To answer the question in the title of this thread, I actually think Bonamassa is probably too normal and therefore his music isn’t that interesting to listen to. Great music tells an interesting story often times I think by guys who themselves went through stuff. Just my opinion

Could it be Bonamassa will eclipse Metallica for epic threads?…lol

His managers and marketers know exactly who his audience is and how to capitalize on them.

What the actual fuck? ?

This is the definition of insanity ?

I’ve listened to pretty much all of JBs stuff and the only EJ I ever hear is that sweep appreggio they both do really well.

I don‘t understand any of the ‘soulless’ comments honestly, out of JB and EJ if I had to tag one as soulless it would be EJ and it’s not even close.

I also don’t understand judging a musician by their clothes, sunglasses or attempts to market himself to support his family. JB gets good crowds, I’ve seen a half dozen shows maybe. Lotsa player hating here
