Gibson R9 vs Heritage Custom Core H150

Is there a reason why no other company other than Gibson puts the bridge pickup as close to the bridge as Gibson does on their Les Pauls?

Not Epi, not ESP, seems like not even Heritage.
I’ve noticed that about a LOT of LP type guitars. Even really high end ones like Baker(b3). I don’t get it. I want the treble- don’t try to thicken it up by moving it away from the bridge.

Cool comparison, thanks for taking the time! Every Heritage I’ve played weighed a ton—cool to see they are improving in that area.

Not sure ‘squealing’ is a good way to critique the Gibson pickups. It is a reproduction of a 1950s instrument that was not made to palm mute metal riffs. If that’s what you plan to do with a historic Gibson you need to budget new pickups immediately. Picked up an R8 last year which is my 3rd historic and the new custombuckers are maybe the best pickups I’ve ever played in a LP. I’ve replaced all my other stock Gibson pickups, these aren’t going anywhere. Incredible

In the end the Heritage headstock is the deal breaker for me personally. But gorgeous top on yours

NECK CARVE: Heritage

I realize this category is purely opinion driven. But I do prefer the neck on the Heritage. My reason is that the Heritage neck is a bit fuller and fills my hand better. It has a tad more shoulder. The Gibson neck is not terrible. I do like it
Compared to the R8 I completely agree with your assessment of the R9–I haven’t played a Heritage in a while but the R9 neck to me seems to be missing a bit of girth

What kind of pickups are in a 6k Gibson like that?
The new histories have “custombuckers” and they are straight up amazeballs IMO. Vintage wind, unpotted—not for super high gain playing

Ahh, we are being silly. Cute.
Well, I do like 490's and '57s. I like the Duncan Jazz too. Pretty sure I'd be happy with a Seth Lover. Maybe I'm too easy to please. I probably would like the custombucker. I wonder if it's to compete with the Seths i.e unpotted vintage? Pretty hard to beat the pickup the man himself had a hand in.

I like Seths too but find them a bit bland compared to some other low output vintage types. Pretty sure Ants are just ‘aged’ Seth’s but I like those better. The 490 are more modern pickups but match up well with some LPs. I kept 57s in a couple of my LPs for a few years and they are fine—I just am loving these new Gibson Custombuckers. My other historics have more modern WCRs in them now.

Same.

I have a bunch of newer Navigators with Seth Lovers and like that pickup much better than the '57 Classic that I had in a Gibson. The former seems tighter and has more top end snarl; the latter is just sorta meh. The Gibson now has an SH6.
