Just for fun really, slapped this together pretty quick with 6 different amps involved here:

- Bogner Uberschall Rev Green
- Dual Rectifier Rev G
- Modded 1987x (Friedman JEL sort of thing with a ton of extras)
- 5150 Block Letter
- Friedman BE100
- Krank Revolution Series 1

Used the same IR but some have some subtle EQ. Its not to prove anything, just a fun way of hearing the character of each amp.

Or you can listen/download clips here: https://samply.app/p/yX4EqaFmcoHauKdWseOX

Which tone do you like best?

I thought they all exhibited their character's pretty well. A couple surprised me in that I didnt expect them to work for this but they ended up being some of my favourites. Be cool if anyone fancies taking a stab at which amp is which, I think they have their own character coming through well.

ill guess even though i always fail miserably at these lol

A 5150
B Krank
C Friedman
D Bogner
E recto
F marshall

awesome will check this out

when you putting out the results of what is what?

I liked B the best. D was kinda honky and lo-fi. B had a nice top-end detail, but C also sounded really aggressive.

I think B is an Uber. It has a really nice and clean sub-low rumble and some sizzly highs.

Agree B was the best sounding IMO. The last one has nice mids. I’d love to hear those blended.

A was my favorite here followed by E.

A second run in a mix would be really helpful as well.

B and E for me sound the best.

I think C is the recto but can't really place the others.

In the samply link above there is a bounce with each amp, can be streamed in the browser or downloaded if you like.

Got it, thanks. Yeah the mix changes everything. While I preferred A & E alone, in the mix my fav was C followed by B. That said, the differences in the mix were much smaller.

This thread is an excellent example of "there's an ass for every saddle".

Hate B... sounds like a can of bees. haha. All of the others were cool and would take any of them. If I HAD to pic one favorite it would be E. F was close, but less saturated. D was cool, but a bit dark. Little more high end and it would have been my favorite. Again, B was my least favorite.

Same here in regards to B.

Nice job on those. Which (one of your) IRs did you use?
Cheers. Think it was the 1999 Mesa OS cab here.

I’ll reveal which amp is which tomorrow, I think a lot of people have guessed well (the only thing @RaceU4her got right is that he’d fail miserably ?)

Amps are:

A=JEL modded Marshall, on no NFB mode
B=Uberschall
C=Recto
D=5150
E=Krank
F=BE100

I was surprised how well the JEL worked, without the NFB it sort of blended qualities I liked about all the others. Uber and Recto were probably most distinctive, I liked those a lot too. Less mids then JEL but perhaps more character?

5150 was my least favourite here, a bit boxy and lacking bite.

Krank surprised me, they just sort of have a voicing that seems to sit in a mix well. Probably my second favourite which I didn’t expect.

F kind of surprised me too in that I thought it might be a bit tame. Had a cool squish in the midrange, and enough bite and aggression to make the cut. JEL sort of did everything this did and more though.
