As requested in my other thread, here’s a couple clips of the Hiwatt.

These clips are through a 4x12 with Greenbacks in top and V30’s in bottom. These are iPhone clips, no mic used.

As you can hear, the amp is super aggressive and mean sounding. I stayed on the regular mode for both clips. Super Hi wasn’t engaged.

The first clip is Les Paul into amp, boosted with my GZ / Griffin Analog 808 screamer. This amp loves being boosted. And the pedal is perfect for it.

Second clip is straight in, no boost. It’ll get a lot higher gain in Super Hi mode, but I prefer the articulation of the regular mode.

yeah ..... that amp sounds great .... GC had a used one a year or so ago .... I almost bit ... but there wasn't enough vids out there for me to feel comfortable with the price ... hindsight .... should have grabbed it ... lol

Sounds great.

Need a vid straight in with the 4th stage engaged (no pedal).

Niiiiiice.
That sound in the 2nd, clip, those last lines, pick attack is swanky. Dig it.

Sounds great! Angry/gnashing and serrated.

I flip flop between the reg mode with the gain maxed or the Super Hi setting with the gain at about 1 o’clock. Both have their charms; the reg mode is cleaner/more articulate sounding with tons of aggression and the Super Hi mode is still pissed but with more low mid bounce and overall saturation. Both are killer!

Have tried it with boosts in rehearsal and the overall verdict for me was that they didn’t really add enough positives to keep one in the chain.

I really don’t like the 4th stage a lot. It’s too over saturated and lacks definition. It gets fuzzy on top as well.

I am going to try the 250KA masters per the Hiwatt schematic and see how it sounds. The masters are in parallel so with two 100KA’s that’s 50K total. Really low value. I’ll report back with my findings.

This is Super Hi straight in. Same cab with GB/V30’s. Almost sounds like a Dual Rec with that fizz. Gain is at about 1-2 o clock.

Ok I swapped out the 100KA masters for 250KA per the official Hiwatt schematic. I like it better now. A little fuller, less fizz on 4 stages for sure.

New 4 stage clip with 250KA masters. Way less fizz. Similar settings and same guitar/ cab.

Hard to get a real comparison there because the phone/mic is in a different place and the amp is EQ'd differently. But yeah, does sound fuzzier.

Yeah that sounds better than the last one. btw, I'm not sure that schematic on SLO Clone is "official". Like... what's up with the Chinese? When I bought mine, it was quite literally hand-wired in England when I ordered it. Not sure how someone got their hands on a schematic from a Chinese company.
