I hate selling online.

I have never had USPS lose a shipment with over 400+ shipments in the past 2 years. It may be slow, delayed, take the wrong path, but has always got there. I always hand deliver the shipments to the post office and have them scan them in and print me a receipt. I've dropped off at the Kiosk a few time as well as left in my mailbox, and those time the scanning was not done. Ground Advantage seems to be inconsistent with scanning, but priority usually gets scanned at every hub.
I only ship USPS priority. Never had a problem. Tracking is worlds better. I die inside a little when I see something is being shipped to me via UPS or FedEx. They take way longer, their tracking sucks and even if you find out the day of that it's out for delivery, it still might not show up that day. Maybe it's less expensive to ship with them. I don't know. But my experience with them is not good.

I had a Jalen pickup disappear from the local post office last year.

Greg was about to wind a replacement when a worker inside the post office found a large bag shoved behind a storage rack, filled with parcels.. including my missing pickup.

this is why i just sell it to GC.
sure i take a hit but im done with it plus get 10% off on something new

the trade-in isnt too bad b/c its based on what they can sell it for not what i can sell it for.
theyll get more than i can ever sell it for so the 60% isnt too far off from reality on CL
or after fees on reverb and ebay

What do they offer? 60% of their estimated sale price or 60% of what they sell it for, consignment style?

All set with online shipping. Paypal screwed me after some ahole blew up 2 FRFR Matrix cabs a month after he purchased them. Obviously he did not like them. Andy from Matrix offered to ship him 2 new ones, round trip freight covered, new warranty. Guy said no and filed a dispute. I had pictures of the packing process, videos of the units condition and working. WAS a paypal premium business member. Of course after the payment hold that the dirt bags love to do I got the cash out of there asap as always and into my bank. Showed paypal all the evidence and they side with the buyer, as usual.

For 6 years they were threatening me with collections and harassing me. They did not get a dime and I got the damaged cabs back and fixed them and sold them locally.

I would never ever ever again sell online with paypal. I have sold recently with Venmo, but now they have a buyer protection scam going. I say scam because I've been shipping shit since 2003 on Ebay with 100% + FB until this ahole with the Matrix cabs.

Now I just deal with the downtrodden, destitute, has been, plankton eating bottom feeders on Craigslist. I price low and a buyer can come in person, test the stuff out and once their off my property, they own it. CASH ONLY. Hassle free other than the idiots that low ball me "hey man, got no gas." "Hey man, lost my license." "Hey man, can you deliver it?"

If they put your guitar up on the website for $1000, they will offer you $600 +/-. I think they'll give out up to $1000 cash, anything higher they'll write you a check. They have a database they look your brand/model and it punches out exactly how much to give. 9/10 they don't have much wiggle room.

LOL - in 2023, they write you a check. Another reason I will never do business with them.

It is an increasingly frustrating process. I would prefer to do local deals, but, once you get to a certain price point or rarity there just are not local buyers that are interested. Most just waste your time if they reach out at all. This leads back to the online game. I do a lot of paypal transactions and multiple times I have had paypal hold funds 3-4 weeks after delivery at random. So I spend that time without the gear and without the funds. I have also had this happen where I paypal someone and Paypal does not instantly transfer the funds but show that person the funds are "pending" even though they have been immediately deducted from my account.

Let's also not get into the fact that I have had shippers mangle 3 head shells for amps I have shipped in the past.

It is frustrating all the way around. This is also the reason I really prefer to sell to people on this forum vs reverb or even TGP.
Agree 100%. I think quite simply there just isn't a huge market for very expensive amps and, outside of Reverb, most of that market is on here, TGP, and/or Facebook groups. Locally, there aren't a lot of "high end amp guys" (at least not in San Diego) and the ones that do exist, I already know. So you just end up having to sell online and ship.

Not saying you did this but just some advice to everyone: one way to resolve the "pending" issue is to never send money to a phone number. I did this once at a seller's request and when I called in, the rep told me to never do this because it holds the funds for several days until they clear everything through the phone number and tie it to the email account. Always send to an email address or account, never to a phone number.

That’s exactly what’s happened with me. A very patient customer waited 3 weeks before letting me know he didn’t get the pickup. I wound him another within a week and got it sent. He let me know he got it a few days later, except it was the original one I sent (26 days) and the second one got delivered the next day.

So I got my FM3 so I wanted to sell my H90 to recoup some of the money. Paid 15 bucks to post on TGP. I listed it for 650 Goods and Services 600 Friends and family both prices are shipped. Buyer agreed then sent me $618 goods and services. I refunded his money and explained that it was 650 if you are sending goods and services. I guess he figured that would cover the paypal fees. He seemed like he didnt really understand and asked what did he need to do. I explained send it with my asking price to either option. He sent the money. I packed it up and dropped it off at office depot to ship out Tuesday afternoon. Of course the tracking hasn't updated its just showing label printed which happens sometimes with USPS. So for the past 2 days I'm getting messages about the tracking not updating like I have any control over this. It will likely be there tomorrow but he paid me goods and services so he has buyer protection and I don't even get my money until it shows delivered. Just frustrating. If it doesn't show up then I'm out of an H90 and his payment.

Having said that I sent him a copy of the label and a screenshot where it shows the payment on hold on my account. I get being a little bit concerned since this was the first time I sold on that site. I just deal with problems non stop at work and home. The last thing I need is more headaches from gear selling. Everyone I have ever dealt with on here have been great though. Facebook. TGP, etc not so much.
First, IMHO, it's a dick move to charge $50 for goods & services when it should be 3.5% ($21)
Second, I don't know if you realize this, but if you refunded his first payment, you still got charged the fee.
Third, fully insure the item with signature required and there will be no issues if it doesn't arrive

Check your Paypal account man, I think if you refund a goods/services payment then you have to eat the fees paid on the original transaction. I hope I'm wrong but I think this is the new Paypal way.

If true that's nuts.

From Nerd Wallet:

"Is there a PayPal refund fee?
PayPal doesn't charge any new fees when you issue a refund. However, you won't get back any of the processing fees you already paid.

For example, let’s say you need to refund a $100 purchase made online. Based on PayPal’s current fees for standard debit and credit payments, you would have received $96.52 for that transaction. But Paypal will take $100 out of your account to make your customer whole — meaning you’ll ultimately lose $3.48. Use our PayPal fee calculator to estimate how much a refund might cost you.

PayPal isn't alone in keeping fees from refunded transactions, but the practice isn't universal. Stripe also keeps the fees, but Amazon Pay splits the difference, refunding its percent-based processing fee but not refunding the authorization fee."

Remember if you sold over $600 for the year, there may be tax implications when they file taxes this year, you going to see a bigger price difference for goods and services

I paid shipping too. So after shipping insurance and PayPal fees it came up to 598. Plus the whole issue of dealing with the tax aspect. I mean I sold it for 100 less than any other listing that I saw on Reverb or Facebook or whatever not including shipping. Not to mention half the time you sell something on paypal they hold your funds after you hit a certain amount. They could always go to someone else. The difference in cost is it would have made everything easier. They would be getting it for 150 less than the next cheapest used listing vs 100.

The fees and everything were refunded. Imagine someone just send you a random amount and you get punished for it.

Yeah, I’m confused why you refunded the $618.00 ?
That nets you the $600.00 your were asking?
Yeah but I'm including shipping. I was willing to lose a little bit extra not to have to deal with goods and services. The guy wasn't home when the Post office tried to deliver so since I technically hit my limit on sales last month they won't release any funds until after delivery.

Personally I think goods and services rules are shit but I see why they exist. I will try to make something right if something is wrong but not everyone is.

And I totally get why the guy was a little worried since I was a new account and had zero feedback info. Just was kinda weird sending that amount.

Every time I've shipped something UPS or FedEx and there was damage it's always an uphill battle. They find the most interesting ways to damage something. I'm still waiting on a check from a claim from an amp UPS damaged in July. They sent the first check to the wrong address. Then they told me it would be 3 weeks until they can issue me a new one after already waiting a month for the first one.

Yeah. I remember going down that road with you. You boxed that amp to survive a 10 foot drop. UPS must have dropped it from 11.
