Making an EQ sound like a pedal.

I'd say that is plenty close enough!

I've been a focus user since they first came out. My first one was a stock in a brushed ghostly gray paint w/black knobs, and my second has a customized slightly raised shelf on the low-pass filter and is flat-black w/silver knobs. I love both these and the Ice Scream for boosting.

I got my first standout back in Feb 2019. I hated it at first… then I learned how to use it and it quickly became one of my favorite pedals. I had a pinball and dragon, but the standout did everything I wanted without sound clinical. I got the V2 standout and thought it was good, but was redundant. When the V3 came out I was excited since it had the pinball eq incorporated. I was actually using the switchback to go between to different setting on the two standouts.

The switchback is a must for those of us who constantly tinker comparing and contrasting gear.

Have you ever tried the Buxom Boost? I have a clone I made that is my go-to when I want a boost that is not as dramatic as a typical Tubescreamer type sound. It dont have that modern clank to it many other pedals have.

Well done man. Very cool. I don’t know why more people use eq pedals as boosts. I’ve recently picked up an old Boss PQ-4 and I think I may like it even more than my GE-7. I still appreciate and use plenty of different OD pedals but EQ pedals are infinitely more flexible.

Eqs rule . My fav is the advanced eq from 2000s . I have a ge7 and the empress eq as well

The Standout (and most pedals) has the versatility speed. Meaning, I can flick a switch and change the dB of the shelf. With the EQ, I’d have to completely re-set the unit.

The other interesting thing is how different EQ’s sound. I was comparing the MXR 10 band vs the Boss GE-10. I couldn’t get them to sound the same as they each have their own special mojo going on. It’s more like a different “thickness” to the sound of each. I actually kept the settings on the GE-10, so maybe I’ll make another quick video going back and forth.

I have a PQ-4 and it’s great. I wish I could modify it for a little more output from the level knob. I found it didn’t drive a stock JCM800 enough for me.

I haven’t tried that pedal…but I understand that clank ?. The Standout can get that if set a certain way.

I also love the old MXR pedals… the distortion + and micro amp are killer pedals when used with an amp with a bit more gain.

I really like the Standout with my Tremoverb or Heartbreaker. You can control how tight the bass gets. Really useful with these amps. Lots of pedals can do this. But the Standout gives more precise control.

I can get a similar shape with my MXR M108S 10 Band Graphic EQ. But it is never as detailed or focused.

Are the standout a bit fatter maybe?
In the room the Standout has a certain mid range frequency I couldn’t get with the EQ. It’s what I call the pedals mojo. Same with my comparison between the GE-10 and MXR 10 band. The Boss is always a tiny bit smoother… The MXR does have a little mojo itself as well.

Might get closer to perfect with the mxr 6-band due to the centers of each band being slightly closer to one another. It's always been my go-to EQ for the front of the amp. It's really not equipped well for the loop placement IMO. For the loop I'd rather have the extra controls on the 10-bands, including the gain and level.

Actually for the loop I'd rather have one of the newer designs with presets, that way "models" can be created and stored.

I actually have a 6 band and it was more difficult to get it to sound like the pedal. I’ll make another video later tonight. The 6 band also has a little more push, so that adds to the challenge…meaning slight movements on each band change more than I want. Haha. I kept all of the settings on the 6 band and GE-10.
