With the reports surfacing about Sean Coombs and Clive Davis recently, I was hit with a flood of memories oddly connecting my past to a litany of current headlines regarding high profile figures and sex/pedo scandal.

Barry’s high school yearbook picture portrays him playing basketball with a person named Ray. I met Ray in high school and can tell you unequivocally that he was an evil drug dealing pedophile. I wasn’t one of his victims but I had a friend who was. He would entice wayward teens with drugs laced with hallucinogenics and prey on them. He was later killed by one of his gay lovers with a hammer and rolled up in a carpet. One of my best friend’s girlfriend’s mom was on the jury for the murder case. Why would Barry single him out in his high school senior picture and quote, thanking him for all the good times?
Lent a great deal if credibility to the Bathhouse Barry stories.

I worked on Usher’s first music video when he was a wide eyed chubby kid and S”puffy”C co-directed the shoot. I rode around in a car in the desert with both of them, SC driving, me in the passenger seat, and Usher in the back seat discussing how scenes would be laid out. SC was very demanding and not friendly and Usher was intimidated in a scared way and did not strike me as a happy kid. I remember thinking it strange as he should have been excited about his first big video.

I worked on 2 ABC children’s projects with Kool Moe Dee, Brandy, Ray J, Lloyd Bridges, Kirsty Allie, and Ross Mallinger-the child actor playing Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan’s son in Sleepless in Seattle. The director and producer were a gay couple. The standards and practices rep from ABC’s children program division monitoring the set was gay. His job was escorting child actors from the set in large dark soundstages at prescribed intervals for tutoring. I later had to film content for an accompanying interactive CD-Rom to help promote the program. We shot at the producer’s palatial home in hollywood hills. Me, producer, producer’s partner and Ross. No one else. After I finished filming I had to leave Ross alone with those two and felt pretty uneasy about that. my takeaway from that experience was that parents who were present with their children actors all seemed very paranoid and defensive.

I worked on a music video for Thug Life featuring Tupac. He was the most challenging celeb i have encountered. One of my responsibilities was retrieving him from his trailer when the crew was ready to film a scene. Each time I went to get him I encountered guns, drugs, gnarly bodyguards, wading through clouds of potsmoke weirdos and women. He was difficult to say the least.
At the end of the long night as i was walking through the parking lot towards my car, he was driving off in his mercedes and i gave a courtesy wave goodbye. he pulled up to me, cracked the window, and stuck out his ring studded hand in a gesture i could only interpret as “kiss my ring”. i looked at him like “Rrright..” grabbed his pinky and shook it and he peeled off. The rumor mill about him and SC putting a hit on him seems plausible given his lifestyle and the cast of characters i saw him with that night.

Tupac was mega zesty. He was a ballet dancer and drama club person at some fancy Bay Area high school before being groomed by a talent agent/Lawyer (that he met at a poetry club) to become a fake ass G@n$ta

i don’t know anything about his background nor followed stories about his death, but during our production he was not one to heed direction. we were filming in an abandoned LA county jail and one of the scenes was supposed to be a food fight which evolves into a riot. on the rehearsal before cameras rolled he started throwing food and smashing it into people ruining the set, wardrobe and ultimately causing us to cut that scene from the video and waste a ton of time.

i did a shoot with the hip hop kid duo Kriss Kross and spent a day with them at their house in Atlanta. happy normal goofy kids, but their manager Jermaine Dupre was shady and friends with Bobby Brown for character reference. most know how BB influenced the Whitney downfall. it was sad to hear how management mistreated and robbed the Kriss Kross kids and ultimately one of them turned to drugs and OD’ed.

I don't know how you did what you did for a career Pat. I can see why you switched gears and started doing the outdoor stuff. At least I assume that's what you did. I remember you posting lots of outdoor stuff anyway. It's kinda like me working in prison. My lead worker was a serial killer, my next two guys were hitmen, my next guy was a drug kingpin responsible for lots of bad things, then my next one was a raging aggressive homosexual deviant...fuck....good times....lol...

leaving the career track i was on came via a heartfelt discussion with God on the way home from my last Playboy shoot.

as an assistant director i oversaw hiring and managing the crew and kept everyone on schedule, leaving the director free to focus on the talent, performance and outcome visually. i was the guy that yells “lights, sound, cameras, action”, gave background actors, extras, vehicles, special fx (rain/street wet downs, lighting, explosions, gunshots, helicopters, etc.) their cues. dealt with producers, clients/guests, logistics, permits, rehearsals, location scouting, catering, etc.

however, it became bitterly evident that the trajectory of the content i was working on and producing was serving the wrong god when the director of the playboy shoot i was working on quit, in the middle of filming. he just turned to me after filming a scene, handed me the “script” and said i can’t do this anymore and walked off set. this instantly thrusted me from a relatively detached managerial role into the position of finishing directing the actions of a playmate and love interest convincingly simulating sex for the camera, the remaining 4 hours of the evening.

let me tell you something. on the surface guys may speculate locker room style that directing a playmate this way was every red blooded man’s dream come true, but in reality it makes you feel dirty.

i confessed my sins on the long drive home, asked God to close that door and open another, and the very next day i got the call to film a pheasant hunt in snowy farm in iowa with a senator and it was like being reborn.
the rest is history.

Word on the street was Quincy Jones had a daughter that Tupac liked and so was hanging out at his place some. The story goes Quincy basically propositioned him and Tupac's response was "I don't get down like that".

Anytime I get around people in the money and power set I get an extremely dark vibe. I was dealing with this dude and his mother once for something non music related and I literally had to get away from them as quickly as possible. They weren't rude or mean or anything like that, it was just a dark dark vibe and high weirdness emanating from their presence. I could literally feel it. It was making my skin crawl. They had a lot of money. The demons are drawn to those things so in those circles there are people caught in many harmful passions and wickedness. Glad to see you make a clean break from it all. Some things just ain't worth it.

another weird one was working with yet another stellar gentleman, r. kelly, to film his music video “honey love”
the director for the shoot owned the production company and was a pretty street hardened ny guy. i had worked with him for many years. we had to film a bathtub love scene so we closed the set to the core crew members—director, DP, talent. i remember thinking at the time that the girl looked way too young to be a love interest for a bathtub scene.

after they got the shot the director came out of the bathroom looking freaked out. he hands me a burst rose, saying kelley lit it during the last take. he kept saying “you’re not supposed to do that.” with a traumatized guilty look in his eyes that something very wrong happened. i’d never seen him behave that way before or since so it stuck with me.

R Kelly, lol. Beyond weird. Sick in the head is more like it. I couldn't stand idly by. I get effing hostile about the perverted shit. Real hostile.

I was doing one of my better gigs about 8 years ago. Show went great, as usual. A dude approached me after the show about appearing on a tribute album for a well known TX artist who is considered a legend. I was being respectful but I only play what I want to play, money notwithstanding, so I don't give a shit about this dude's project at all when I hear the name.

Anyways the guy gave off the usual big shot cool guy vibe, no biggie, pitching his plan and was seemingly nice, joking and talking with the band for a while. But he goes to leave and says something about "sticking it to those fucking christians meh heh heh". It was so fast and unexpected and out of left field I was left wondering exactly where that came from or why it was even brought up and WTH did he just say?!?! Who does that? I never did hear back from him, which was more than fine with me because I ain't associating with anyone who has overt Christ hater attitude plus I think the legend he was talking about sucks ass. Not my bag at all. It weren't rhythm and it weren't blues so GTFOOH, haha. Just goes to show you there are some seriously weird and inappropriate people in the business starting with myself, but that guy had me beat hands down haha.

That gig has been my money gig for almost a dozen years and now there is some other intrigue going on to sort out in the next couple weeks. Someone associated with the club called me and was not so cleverly prying for information. I played it cool but I gotta do some checking around now. Money is like shit, it always attracts flies and other vermin....

You want demons and want to experience demonic vibes go to a prison. It’s not all mental illness….can’t be…
my ex-wife and i used to do a prison ministry bible study and worship with another couple from our church. it began as a request from a friend of mine who got locked up for drugs there. we did it for a couple of years and saw some interesting characters! one guy named earl was the roughest angriest tatted up hispanic looking character who sat silently in the back of the room arms folded with a look of death. never said a word the whole time we were there. when we announced that we were going to be discontinuing the service due to the pending birth of our daughter, earl straight came up to me at the end of the service. like squared up face to face. i thought he was going to throw. he then says to me and my 8 &1/2 month pregnant wife standing next to me:
“the Lord told me you should name your daughter Christina.” with an expressionless face.

i side-eyed my wife who was doing the same to me. on the 1 hour drive up the mountain to get to where this prison was located we had just been discussing what we should name our baby girl, to no avail.

i looked back at earl and said, “that’s perfect.”and that is exactly how my daughter got her name.

People can laugh at me but I believe God can use anyone at anytime bro. I also believe that little voice in your heart or the back of your head is another way he communicates with us. To be honest Pat that’s probably the whole reason that guy was there.
