Hello All!

I myself am a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Served from 96-00 actively, did 2 med tours and some other neat things.

Just trying to see how many Veterans were here in the forum.

Thank You All in advance for your service.

This isn't just in North America, if you are from abroad, I'll count that too!

Partied hard with many countries service members, so I love to connect with foreign service members.

Share as much as you want ..or don't, for that matter. Up to you.

Cheers
??

Things must have been different in the 80s.

We had workups and all that so doing 2, 6 month med cruises was actually pretty quick. So I am surprised is all.

STG2 here.

What type of ship were you stationed on? Home Port?

USS Kauffman FFG 59, Home Port Norfolk, Virginia.

God bless them all. Especially the last one.

Thank you for your service, and sorry to hear of your suffering.

Hope that you have the support you need.
Here if you want to talk, just DM me.

??❤️??
Thanks man. I've pretty much figured out how to deal with it by educating myself and doing my own work. Therapy does NOTHING as far as I'm concerned. Just listening to others bellyache about their problems does little to fix mine. With me, a mixture of military brutality, and growing up in a home where my parents fought bloody fights for 18 years till I moved out :D
I notice when I do brutal hard manual labor and work out everyday I don't need any meds. I refuse to take SSRI's. They fix nothing.
Started microdosing mushrooms, 500mg a day and feel a little more chipper, but Winter is the number one factor that drags me down. I love to sweat in the hot sun.

The major thing that gets me is the startle response, which never goes away. I hear a jar drop on the floor in the grocery store and I hit the deck, LOL. Last person that snuck up behind me almost got a fist to the throat :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like you have an understanding with it, and know how to best navigate with it and that is good to hear.

My early childhood was very similar so I understand that for sure.

I also get the startle response, and had a huge problem with people touching me for a LONG time. But I have mellowed with time.

Seems to me you know how to at least seek solutions and cope, so that's the biggest part.

But if you still need to chat or scream, I'm cool with that.

Nice to meet you, bud. ?

So my wife just informed me of a truly unsettling situation.

Her niece has a boyfriend, and it seems she assisted him in receiving >4,000us/month for PTSD....from boot camp. Never went to the field/fleet, never even went to his training....didn't finish boot camp.....but allegedly gets this ridiculous amount per month ...for boot camp.

Am I wrong to be a little upset by this?

I went through boot in 96, right as the silly chits came in....and we had to give them back.
The little time out cards? Anyone remember these? They were blue.

Anyway, not trying to shame anyone for mental health, at all.

I just don't see how this could be a thing .... especially considering those that could actually use that help, and don't apply.

Not trying to start anything, just don't understand it. I have older friends that served in Nam, and they never applied for shit. They would be pissed over this.

I am just blown away. Boot camp...... seriously. WTF?!?!

One of my girlfriend's older brother went into the Army and hurt his arm in boot camp. Never completed and discharged on medical. $2k/month for the last 25 years. His arm has never seemed to bother him.

I hate to say it ..this shit really gets under my skin....

I had a few friends that hurt themselves in personal time, and did the same....I just don't get it. But that is me.

Oh well.

stolen valor does not sit well with me.
I have combat status on my DD214. I'm entitled to benefits. I never filed for them.
why, i was nowhere near the conflict
id image about 1500 miles away at the time in Oct 1983 when they bombed the marine barracks in Beirut
I never say i'm a combat veteran. Im a veteran.

How are all the veterans doing today?

Been in my memories lately, reminiscing of my time I spent in countless countries, playing rock tunes.

Did any of you happen to form any band while you served, did you get to play any shows?

When I think back, I cannot believe what we were able to accomplish, and how it brightened the day of both civilians and service persons.

Been thinking about trying to get something going to visit veterans. Or bring vets together to jam, just as an outlet or distraction.

Do any of you do anything similar in your lives?
