A neat video showing the effects of some basic fabric stuffing in a guitar cab. I've been digging into cabinet design lately, so it's neat seeing Johan's tests on the matter.

Testament used roofing insulation back in the day.

I hide my dirty bed sheets in the back of my guitar cabs, so nobody knows my secrets.

Besides, when the urine from the bedsheets gets into the V30s, that's how you get the golden tone!

Cum crusted socks work too. Gives you a nice creamy tone.

I wasn't expecting this, but I think I kinda prefer the sound of the cab without any stuffing.

Maybe the stuffed cab would be a bit more forward in a mix but it sounds a bit pokey and strident by itself. The empty cab sounds broader and warmer which I liked more.

Also "I'm gonna stand out in the mix so you can listen to ME ME ME!" is not necessarily the be-all-end-all goal. Sometimes it's about blending instruments that gel together in a way that sounds great overall.

Would have loved to hear the Bogner et al batting compared here too.

I like the regular cab better here.

Corpses would work, but would start to smell pretty quickly.
So you don’t like it when they talk back. 🤣

Dave Friedman discussed the Bogner baffle on a Tone Talk once, obviously he isn’t a fan.

Maybe it was another dead end / too innovative for guitarists...but I'm surprised we haven't seen more ported / reflex cabs for guitar, except maybe Port City...but they haven't innovated in years

I look at it this way. The best rock guitar recordings of all times were probably recorded with a regular cab. I’m good with just a regular cab and most of the recordings I’ve done with regular cabs satisfy me.

Yo-han seems to have run out of "content" as a content creator.
The virtues of laundry.

Back in the day had all my Marshall cabs loaded with EVs and heavy duty house insulation. Those fuckers were heavy as all hell!

I was surprised too. I think part of it might be the way he dials things in. Generally I find his tones a bit pokey and strident for my own tastes, which combined with the blankets can definitely get a bit much. I think my ideal is probably somewhere between the two cab setups, and I'd probably try getting there by doing the blankets or similar and then dialing in the amp to fill and smooth things out. But I don't know how that would turn out.

I think he reveals the warts of these old rigs while still showing the strengths/potential. One thing that I always keep in mind when watching Johan is that he is a HUGE KISS fan. I never liked KISS until Creatures and then for only 1.5 records. They were always a weak guitar band to me. They didn't rip...like Nugent. :ROFLMAO:

the first thing I think of here is foam insulation, It self expands and you could manually shape it after it dries.
