Thanks for posting! Agree, surprised but not surprised re the amount of gain. Many people talk about how little gain he had, but man he was almost fuzz-like on a lot of songs. Personally love it!

I've been re-learning a bunch of old VH for a new project and man, I've been really loving some of the softer stuff like Secrets, In A Simple Rhyme- so tasteful and restrained yet so badass. Dude was unmatched.

Dude really was on another level…

Oh, man. He sure was. There's not supposed to be a world without Eddie Van Halen, dammit!! He brought so much joy to my life with his music and I miss him bigtime.

Thank you, Ed.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let Your perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed
rest in peace through the mercy of God.

Amen.

And I feel the same way about dime and Vinny… ohh well…death comes for us all in the end but death has been defeated with death so where is thy sting o’death? It’s not the end…

What is he doing at 1:35?

Sounds like a phaser and then a wah comes in.

@angelspade - please share how why when you were talking with John 5?

He's a friend of mine. Great guy. Loves talking music and gear (although his rig is unbelievably simple).

Sweet. Love his work. Some of that VH stuff he did with Corey Taylor live was hella fun looking. I'm guessing he has an EVH 5153 variant and a few pedals.

Hopefully he doesn't mind me sharing this: up until fairly recently, he used a Marshall JVM210H. Now it's the EVH 100 EL34 version and loves it. Yup, a few pedals...and into the amp.

boy that is just plane horrible to my ears, but what is funny:

i remember guys on forums saying, you never get that VH1 sound with a stock plexi. too much gain (don't know if they considered the boosting part or not). a lot of studio magic involved!
well, as it turns out the studio magic actually makes it sound less gainy as oppossed what you originally where to believe...
