Scooped vs Boosted Mids for Metal (Updated)

Both have thier place.Also depends on the amp- if the amps' dna is already a mid fwd or low mid amp to start with
 
not sure what that first clip is now, but I liked the definition. That thing sounds mean straight in.

Depends which rig I'm plugged into. Dime rig? Scooped(duh). Slayer rig is Marshalls so it's definitely more mids. Ultralead is more neutral.
 
Depends on the cab. For Metal, V30s you can scoop the hell out of it, and in fact, I'd say you need to unless you want a pole to the forehead.

Other brighter speakers, not so much.
 
Cab and speakers play a huge factor. I typically scoop, but as a lifetime V30 user, I've found it's hard to beat 4x CL80s, just because they give you some occasional relief from the knawing mid freq that the V30s always emit no matter how much you scoop. I can scoop less with the CL80s and still get the same performance as V30s.
