Why do you have so many guitars?

I've bought/sold gear for 25ish years, really have not sold anything (few cheap guitars to GC) since covid, and purchases ramped up... Keep saying, "I'll sell this or that after I buy something". One day...

sounds familiar.
I'll acquire the stuff i might like and than make a fair comparison and let the stuff go that's 2nd or 3rd class to my ears..
never happend so far:o

I just have uses for each . Cover all the rock , country , and jazz tones . I don’t have a jazz box atm . Should have kept it

if you play long enough, there are guitars you horde, that you can't give up. There is sentimental value for some, or just guitars you play that blow your socks off. I have a couple guitars that I don't even play regularly, but were so far and above their peers when trying stuff, I had to grab them. Both happened to be guitars I played in a shop, and had nightmares for a few days that I had lost the holy grail.

Here's a question for those of you with a pile-o-guitars. How many of your guitars are actually currently playable?

I have 27 guitars. 13 of them are good to go, and the other half are in varying states of repair/modification/restoration.

All but one. It's my first guitar and have been on ebay for years trying to collect all of the original stickers I had put on it to "restore" it back to it's memorable condition from when I was in elementary school. As well as the troll doll that I had glued in the neck pickup cavity.

Of the large group I posted only 2 of those guitars aren't playable. There's a bunch that could use fresh strings, and a few that may need a slight neck adjustment, but I wouldn't classify that as unplayable.

What I really need to do is set some up for alternate tunings. Most are set up for E or Eb. It wouldn't hurt so have some set up to C, C#, or D standard.

That's the one thing that sucks about not having a big pile/stack of guitars. I can't imagine having a half dozen guitars and not having a couple in different tunings or a multiscale/7 string something

Pickups mostly.
Some of its just memories.
And the rest 6 vs 7 string vs baritone.

I have about 4 I use regularly.

Sometimes I think I may sell a guitar or two, but I actually use most of them frequently depending on what songs we are playing.

I do have 3 Les Pauls but one is set up in E flat and the other has p90's. Other than that there is not really much duplication and each guitar has a distinct sound and use.

Flying V
Tele
Yngwie Strat
PRS Ce 24
355
a couple Charvels in different tunings

If I got rid of any of those, it would leave a hole in my arsenal.

They all get used for different inspirational ideas when noodling and they all have a specific role in our band setting.
