I always loved Johnny Winters but recently found this concert footage and such a cool more intimate atmosphere here:

Heck yeah, thanks for the bump. He really smokes "Be Careful With a Fool" on that performance.

My favorite JW stuff is his slide work on the Muddy "Mississippi" Waters live album also with Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin. That record stands huge in my mind to this day. Deep Down In Florida is probably my favorite cut on that one.

Little Jimmy King getting it done! One of the pinnacles of the late 90's and early 2000's blues scene.

Why is the blues genre so misogynistic? Is there no respect for BBB Queen? Aka Big Betsy Buchanan. A women so infused with the blues that by the time of her 21st birthday was already famous for the extremely rare ability to suffer three simultaneous periods at once. A woman that brought the house down every time she performed because many clubs had to widen their door frames just to accommodate her 650 lb stature. Tragically she passed away before leaving much recorded output behind, by drowning in her own swamp ass juice.

Is it, though? I figured it was just self depreciation more than anything given that the blues is just a bunch of sniveling little bitches crying like little girls about women they never had to begin with. 🤷‍♀️

I used to go see these guys on the regular, in this very club, right around this time. Was always hot af in there. Tall guitar/singer was Dave Feister and it was kind of his gig, he usually did almost all the singing. Short guitar player was Austin Pettit who went on to play in some other killer local bands (Kenny Cohen and Debbie Boyer). I think the B3 players name was Steve Miller (obv not THE Steve Miller). Tight rhythm section. Very solid band.

Heck yeah Freddie is my favorite King and that is one of my favorite live Freddie videos ever. Deacon Jones on keys. Deacon played with John Lee Hooker as well.....
He is the best King. I saw BB live and STILL wished it would have been Freddie. Back in the Napster days I found this amazing live recording of Sweet Home Chicago and have never been able to find it again since.

Wow Spider, thank you so much for sharing this. The name Austin Petit has crossed my ears a few times living in the Tampa Bay area for a good many years. I watched all those videos. Great stuff, you're very fortunate to have been able to enjoy it first hand. It looks like both of the guitarists have passed away, how unfortunate. RIP. That 3rd video almost had me in tears cause that was the festival level blues sound in the 90's and early-mid 00's so it was taking me back. Great playing, great GROOVE as advertised. Freakin' awesome bro!!!

That’s a good one! The one I had was much more uptempo, sounded like the amp (and Freddie) was really cooking. Must not have any associated video, but man it was the best version of that song I’d heard. Unless the artist was a really good Freddie impersonator…

Never seen anyone who could impersonate that voice tho!!!

There have been a lot of bootleg recordings of Freddie showing up the past five years. You might be able to find a similar or the exact version if you poke around youtube for a while. One of the vids is Freddie in England I think and he's using a Marshall playing with some young english guys.
