Hot Mod - V2 or Mr Scary

Think I’m gonna get a Hot Mod to check out. You guys think the Mr Scary is worth the extra $$$$

Andy Marshall lent me a Hot Mod V2 EVO. I tried it in a 2 channel Mesa Triple Rectifier, Orange OR50 and THD Series One Plexi(69' smallbox clone). I recommend replacing one of the 12AX7 with a 12AT7.

I tried the V2 two times. It wasn't for me. For extra tweakability it's probaly better to get the Scary.

aww man i ordered the v2 lol. i’ll be using an sd-1 too so maybe it’ll work for me lol

The V2 is better for a set and forget approach. For what Amp, btw.?

well I’ve got 2 jcm 800 styles and 1 1987. gonna try it in each

I had a Mr Scary and OG Soldano Hot Mod. The Soldano had better, more organic tone quality (as well as some of that Soldano flavor to the sound), but was noisier. Both could sound good, but ultimately just boosting the amps stock with my Klon sounded and felt much better to me, so I sold both

good info! And I do love boosting my amps too. This has a 30 day return on it so it will have seem better than boosting for me to keep it. though i’m not opposed to having the module and boosting

Now that you say it: I had one of the OGs too Mine was the Metal-Version, not the red one and i had the same conclusion like you

I had one of these. Probably just the Chassis. Not the Music Genre: "Metal" In case you misundertood, i couldn't explain it better, sorry.

You'll be fine. I don't find the extra $$ for the Mr. Scary is worth it. The only thing "versatile" on it is a gain knob vs. 2 switchable fixed levels.

Don't know where you got your's, but I ordered mine from Motor City, no tax.

The Hot Mod gain switch is the same as the knob at 1 o'clock and full up. The bass cut has a wider range than the Scary version. Cuts more bass.
