Need advice on a 2x12 for my VH4.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up going deep into the V30 rabbit hole and finally sourced a very nice mid 90s 1960AV. The V30s of the era are supposed to be warmer and a tiny bit "greenbacky" - if that's even a word - and I have to say I'm rather satisfied by my purchase. All channels sound great tho I do feel the Mesa cabs give the channel 3 a slight edge.

Own a VH2 and a Paul.....FL V30 is a for sure a no brainer ....but i have ordered and still waitiing for a rear v30....to compare the two face to face....

Been using a real loaded Zilla Super Fatboy 2x12 with my VH2 for a few weeks. Have a alnico Cream and V30 in there currently. Curious how FL V30s would feel in comparison

VHX + VH4, RL V30 2x12, totally fine...

keep in mind that there is much more sound coming from the MIC and the talent of your FOH mixer....
Still.. shit in shit out :) but the V30 will do it

Yep.....but don't care the mic....my only question is "in real " , in front of me ....what differencies...

Something special about those speakers. They re-release them from time to time for Silver Jubilee reissue cabinets because Mr. Saul Hudson has enough pull with the Marshall people to justify the builds/amortization. I've seen the side-by-side comparisons of people running amps through the new silver V cabinets and new black V cabinets with "same" speakers and they sound very different- a lot of people are not understanding that all "V30" speakers are NOT the same... just like Coca-Cola. Big difference between the McDonald's recipe and the stuff on the store shelves.

You can hear me running my VH4 through a mid-90s 1960BV on the ^album link above.

And yes, I would say those mid 90s Marshall V30s have a smooth high-grain breakup while also retaining clarity AND warmth. I had an actual 1960AX (greenback) cab at one point when I got my VH4 years back. It was warmer and less fizzy than a standard 1960A, but broke up way too easily because of the lower wattage. Those mid 90s AV and BV cabs seem like a modernized "vintage" setup (vintage tone, but higher power handling). Cheers to the end of the 20th Century- what a time to have been alive!

Did you bring your amp and guitar in to a shop and try them out through different cabinets?
I love doing that. Show up in a salmon-colored polo and tan shorts. Let them give me the run around when I ask if they can help me try out some cabs....
Walk outside, and come back in with a Blue VH4 and a hot rod ESP/Gibson/partsCaster.
THEN they know what time it is.

Loving the tones you recorded. Unfortunately I didn’t get to shootout that many cabs in a shop. Just a lot of traveling with my VH4 in the backseats
