Secrets to EVH Tone

Seems everyone has thoughts on this.

Let's add another, microphonic preamp tubes!

Been experimenting with them.

They can sound terrible until you get them settled and then they are still problematic. BUT, some, when you get them settled sound great with additional depth and overtones.

I wouldn't sell an amp with them but for a certain purpose they can be very useful!

Two things:
First, I have no desire to sound like EVH.
Second, there are other shortcomings to microphonic tubes that prevent me from wanting to use them in my rig. It's not worth the feedback and squealing issues in a high gain metal context.

No comment on EVH tone, but microphonic preamp tubes can be fun. Found one in the complement for an old PA I partially rebuilt, it was just far enough gone to give cool sustain and bloom effects to the tone. It wasn't a high gain situation though.

I gotta figure that’s due to more smoke in the room being 100s are longer, probably shifted the mids a bit, especially on a muggy day.
