THE Tube Amp

I have a THD Series One Plexi. It's a 1969 small box clone.
I prefer to use these types of amps without overdrive/boost pedals. There is a few ways I set it up. But the most common is the volume just up to the point if infinite sustain. Then control everything with the guitar volume.

The obvious problem with these amps is if turned up to get the sound it's much louder than a loud drummer. All the ways to fix this are a compromise.

I wouldn't call a 2203 squishy. I would be more inclined to call tighter amps than the 2203 sterile and solid-statish. It's a matter of taste of course, IMHO/YMMV etc.

I love mine too! A used half stack popped up locally on CL at an insane price last month, and I could not resist. If I could only keep one amp. For sure, this would be the one.

The more I dug into the tones and players who inspired me, the more I saw the 1959 Plexi, over and over again.

Finally resigned to the good logic of “if you want a Marshall, get a Marshall” and the “it’s great but…” era of amp searching was over.

Had my 1969 1959 Plexi since about 2012 now or so. Longest I have owned any piece gear.

The amazing cleans are the bonus!
