I started shaving with a double edged razor a few years back - I couldn't ever go back to a cartridge razor now, even if DE blades weren't just $.05 each. I never get skin irritation anymore.

Real men use boar brushes! lol

Looks like a lot of work to me

I use a Gillette (5pk cartridge) and the same conditioner I use in my hair. Zero irritation. Takes about 2 1/2 minutes in the shower. :dunno:

I've thought about going with a safety razor or barber's blade before. But I have a full beard and it seems like too much time and effort to quickly shave my neck a time or two each week.

Totally, probably not worth it for neck shaving. Using a good disposable single edge razor would make a difference probably. the Bic Metal are a great choice.

Once with the grain, again against the grain and you have a great shave that'll last 2x longer that a single pass with a 3-5 blade modern cartridge. Plus way less irritation and ingrown hairs.

I use Harrys and soap. Razors are great. I have like 20 packs of them as I don't use many of them.

Pinaud on the front neck after and powder on the back of the neck after a trim. Nothing like an old school hair cut

Been using safety razors and straights for many years. I've probably turned at least 15 other people on to it too. I haven't bought anything shave related in about 4 years now other than a few soaps from B&M I wanted to try. I won't "Have" to buy blades, soap or aftershaves for the rest of my life if I don't want to. Carts suck the big one.

i have a big collection of DE razors (dozens) and use a shavette around my goatee. I just picked up a straight two days ago. A Dovo Barbarossa. i have a large array of whetstones for chisels and plane blades but i still have to learn to hone the straight Properly. It’s a bit of an art.

I made the switch to double edge razors about 8 months ago. Started out with a Vikings Blade Chieftain and a variety sample pack of blades to see how I liked it. A month or two later and I invested in a better razor (Rockwell T2) while they were still having their new years sale and a couple 50/100 packs of the blades I liked. My blades of choice are Gillette Platinum, Feather, and LOI Titanium.

Gillette Platinums are great. Just be aware that a great number of them are actually faked by the Chinese. You will know if you get some. I always stick to the same couple of vendors and try not to be tempted by cheaper prices on Amazon or wherever. My go to blade is Feather, but I have some razors that Plats are more comfortable with.

As far as modern safety razors I only have high end slants. Razorock Wunderbar and Above The Tie S1 and a Timeless SS .095 which isn't a slant, but is very aggressive, efficient and smooth. My favorite razors are vintage Gillettes. In no particular order: 1931 "New", '56 Red Tip, 40s no date code Super Speed. More I can't recall at the moment. I would suggest trying some vintage Gillettes. You can usually get user grade stuff on eBay fairly cheap. If you need info about anything you find feel free to ask me because I probably know all about them. If you ever get interested in any of the adjustable TTOs ( Twist to open or butterfly), like the "Slim" or the "Fat Boy" let me know. I have a few and I never use them and would actually like to sell them. They are nice razors and deserve to be used.

A side note. I'm not sure what soaps you like, but a few weeks ago I got an email from the dude at Barrister and Mann ( my favorite soaps) and they are closing up shop so if you got a favorite now is the time to buy it because when stock is gone, it's gone.

This morning’s gear.
Timeless with a Feather
Simpson Badger
Barrister and Mann Seville w/ Cool Reserve AS
Barber shop scents.

Today's shave... Feather in a modern Gillette DE razor - a shavette with a feather for manscaping my goatee lol. Col. Conk Bay Rum soap and Brut 33 because I'm a cheap and nasty bastard. Synthetic Yaqi brush with a size 26 knot.
