Doctor Love
I see a lot of people ask the question: What is the difference between the Gibson SG Standard and the Gibson SG 61 Standard? I'll try to answer those questions in this video via extremely poor playing coupled with a complete lack of personal charm.
Have a great weekend and "Celebrate Mediocrity"

Isn’t it neck carve and pick guard?

Larger neck profile on the standard with bat wing pick guard.

Slim taper neck on the ‘61 and tear drop pick guard.

Neck carve, neck joint, fret size, tuners, pickups and pickguard are all different

Seems to me pups and tuners could be different depending on year?
Never realized the neck pocket and frets were different.

I’ve owned six.
However, only one was a standard, four were ‘61 and a CS ‘62.

I’ll have to watch the video!

A 69 double necked SG would have been more your style.

The thinner neck on the 61 sg is fantastic. I've been really happy gigging with mine. Great guitars

One thing I screwed up is that I always thought the 490 pickups were ceramic magnet but in fact they are alnico II. I've believed the wrong thing for years upon years. Oy

I like the standards a lot more. Put a JB on a SG Standard and it’s impossible to get a bad tone . My SG into my Larry probably the best tone I’ve ever had . Which sucks because it does sound better than my 8 strings atm . I need an 8 string JB lol fr

People must love them but I cannot stand the Gibson "Slim Taper" neck profile so I have a Standard
I liked mine for about an hour. Took two gigs to ditch it...the combination of the flat neck and really flat fretboard above the 12th fret made for an uncomfortable mess. The regular Standard is way more comfortable. I've got a 2008 faded version that might be perfect, somewhere between the two neck profiles. Its torn down waiting in line for a refinish so we'll see.....
