Picked up a 1999 players grade ES-335. It's got that nice checking, some scratches, dings and dents in all the right place and none in the wrong ones, that nice patina, and a much better flame than a new custom shop Natural and way less plasticy feeling than the new USA's.

Sounds fantastic too. Only lasted on reverb about 17 hours before I grabbed it cuz the shop wasn't asking thousands over the selling prices like most people on reverb.

No case, no pick guard but I leave pickguards off my Les Paul so I may do that here.

Congrats on a sweet axe! I'm guessing that's a Memphis build? Wish they hadn't closed that factory, they made some soul filled axes there. I can vouch for a more affordable Epi case being decent enough to carry it to gigs if you need something affordable to house it in. Enjoy!!!

I'm guessing it's not Memphis being a 99, I think they opened Memphis in 2000, at least Google tells me that.

Thanks for case tip.

Didn't know that. I guess I figured it had been there longer. I toured the factory in 2001 on my honeymoon. It was near Beale street, the tour guide was humorously arrogant about Gibson guitars being superior to Fenders, and the factory shop had higher prices than 2025. All I could afford was a Gibson shot glass but the tour was actually the highlight of my trip, save for the killer acts at BB Kings and ribs n catfish at the Rum Boogie cafe.

Well if it was your honeymoon, I hope it wasn't THE highlight 😉

Also looks like this guitar was made in mid November of 1999 according to the serial number. So it was maybe one of the last few made before production moved to Memphis shortly there after.

I just wish they had a more rounded neck. So many 335’s have an obscenely flat, skinny neck. Especially from the 90’s and 2000’s.

Nice find! Not sure if I mentioned but I had a 60’s es-355 custom stereo…just like bb’s Lucille except tobacco burst. I spoke with Jonny guitar about it and he has seen it as well…the neck on mine was tiny. Hard to explain. More narrow than wide. I actually liked it but some people were like wtf? How is the neck on your 335?

Bet that was a sweet axe. For whatever reason, wide, narrow, it don't matter as long as it's an ES that plays n sounds good you know I'm all about it!!!

There are SG’s like that from the 60’s as well. Very narrow 🥜.

It is definetly flat and skinny but I like all types of necks. It is just like my custom fender strat, which I love.

It's frets I'm picky on. I don't like narrow tall.

I think you'll find more articulation if you pick closer to the bridge
I just mean I don't like narrow tall as it's too bumpy to slide around neck. This guitar clearly is not narrow tall, but not sure what the frets are. They are good though.

Neck size to me....I can handle fat or skinny.
