KISS "Alive!" turned 50 today

... and it's my birthday but I'm 8 years older than the Alive! album.

I've got nothing but respect for what those dudes achieved back in the '70s. As the years rolled on, not so much. That concept album was a joke, but nothing can take away from their iconic works of the "early days".

IMHO

The exclamation point on Alive! should have been an asterisk, designating the following;

Proceed with Caution; 75% of this album was recorded in the studio
Why, very few live albums during this era were actually 100% live.

Two of the greatest, Alive by Kiss and Alive and Dangerous by Thin Lizzy, had alot of touch up work. I have no issue with it, it served it's purpose. And it was fun as hell listening to it all those years ago.

You felt like you were there and that was the point.

Wasn't it just mastered and remixed here and there ?

I get that but touch ups on a few bum notes and substantial re-recordings are two different things. Even the audience tracks on all KISS live albums have been enhanced lol

Understand but I don't have issue with it because it made you feel like you were there. They wanted to make you feel like you were there, and out of all the live albums out there, it does that. Further unlike most bands of that era, those guys worked the stage so there was going to be plenty of live mistakes.

At least Kiss was honest about it. Frampton Comes Alive was doctored especially the audience and yet most don't even mention that nor Thin Lizzy. Those three albums are pretty much the definitive live albums of that era. It just doesn't bother me.

Happy Birthday, IDK how I missed that in the comments
Thanks brother.

I did my best to keep a low profile this time 'round 'cause the day was all about Charlie Kirk.

Anyone else prefer Alive II?
I grew up with that one. I was 8 years old and looking at the photos of Gene like a monster, the stage, etc., it might as well have been another planet.

People write KISS off now because they have saturated so much of our culture. Back in 78' at that peak, if you were a kid, they were basically super heroes.

For my money it's the Greatest Show on Earth.

That album was recorded on the Dressed to Kill tour and they played a lot of kickass shows on that run. There have been various reports as to how much studio doctoring was done. That doesn't matter to me.

First time I heard Alive was in 1975. I was 14 years old, and I instantly fell in love with that record. Now I'm 64 and I'm still in love with it.
