Same, I used that SLO model for everything back in the day. I bet if someone used a rack XT with big tube power amps that tone would absolutely kill

Did you ever try the Digitech GSP1101? I had one and it sounded pretty good through a power amp into a regular guitar cab.

My "rig" is basically small tube amps and a cord. I also have a volume pedal from an old pedal steel that i play through.
That's it. I own a few pedals but i never use them. Everything i have i bought used.

You just described my guitar gear. Vintage fender Brown Deluxe, newer Chinese Vox AC10C1 and about ten guitars.

Bass gear is more extensive but still far less than what it used to be. At one time I had 4 or 5 300 watt SVTs and I can’t even remember how many 810s. I’m down to one of each now and a couple SS rigs. I’m not really sure how many basses I own. More than 10 though. Probably 15-20.

Let's go @Smash, I didn't get to really spend any time in New Hampshire. We can play his guitars, amps, and go drink burrs.

I think it boils down to money. Rock stars can pretty much afford any gear.
Most real playing musicians at a professional level are doing ok.
As for the young players who don’t have lots of money it’s buy what you can afford at the time.
Here I think a lot of young players who are now older buy whatever they want. It’s a tone chasing hobby.
Some may have bought gear years ago when it was not so expensive and held on to it.

Rigtalk forum is not a place to hang out if you’re trying to save money 💰

A GSP 21 with a Mosvalve power amp was my rig all through the 90s...added an MP1 also at one point. I still had it in 2007 after I'd gone to a modded 2204. I compared it to a AXE unit a GC had in stock in 2009 and the 21 sounded damn close.

I don't think the rig is proportional but the time spent playing it sure is

That's how I have most of my gear. I've owned it for years and just picked things up here and there over the years. I tend not to flip gear much - especially compared to most of the posters around here. I don't have any kind of collection like a lot of guys here do, but I've always managed nice US/UK gear, ever since I was 16 (just one amp and one guitar then, but it was an Explorer and a Marshall 1/2 stack).

Definitely not but if I leave a hole in my income my neighbor and family members will try to get me to take up golf. To me I draw the parallel to people who collect classic cars. No Dales in there but most can do a burnout.

Fuck it I blame this site.

My main rig is a Caparison into a $1200 pedalboard into a Diezel Herbert MKII into a Mesa cab.

Do I do all that justice? Fuck no but my rig will pass muster around here lol

I got some chops, but not enough to justify my rig.

I also own a 964 and an R1. I don’t do those justice either. I got money, I like nice shit.
