Most disappointing distortion pedal you ever tried

Exactly But for whatever reason I keep trying different pedals with different amps. If I turn up the amp to get a similar sound with just the amp. The amp alone always feels and sounds better.

What pedals make up your core tone?

I'm usually no pedals. But on a overdrive, boost, distortion pedal thing again.

Most disappointing distortion pedal you ever tried

I believe the OCD is a underrated boost for high gain. Some complain it's not as tight as a TS but plenty of amps don't need that much low cut - Marshall derivatives especially. The OCD's lack of mid-hump and switchable high shelf make it really useful in lots of situations where a TS sounds...

Most disappointing distortion pedal you ever tried

I decided to get out and compare some overdrive, boost and distortion pedals with a THD Univalve. So far the amp sounds best without them.

Bucket list amps you haven’t gotten to play yet, much less own?

Larry is the only one I saw on this thread I have not tried. I am interested in the next Ultralead. Andy Marshall is building me a amp right now. A new prototype.

Adam Jones VH4 Channel 3 settings

Yes It is easy to do that. If you have the wrong amp or other gear. ACDC, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Who, Tool, etc are all bands that used power amp overdrive extensively. Power amp overdrive is a lot more dynamic than preamp distortion. But it requires the right technique and gear.

Anything comparable to this small gig rig?

I would say yes. You don't need a computer. But most of what it does is based around having a computer. Too be honest I very rarely use anything digital with guitar.

Most disappointing distortion pedal you ever tried

I have a DS-1 I bought about 30 years ago. It's in new condition. I plug it in every 5 years for 10 minutes.

Anything comparable to this small gig rig?

I feel the same. I bought the ToneX when it came out a few years ago.

If you put a KT88, 6550 or KT66 in the Univalve it reacts more like a big amp. Still not the same. But know exactly what you mean about bass and bigger amps. The Univalve is more about a small amp cranked sounds. There is no master volume. Poweramp overdrive. Class A so all the odd and even...

Anything comparable to this small gig rig?

THD Univalve and Orange 1x12 cab. It's enough for a lot of the stuff I do.

Do any of you guys use Fuzz(s) at all ???

Zvex Fat Fuzz Factory and DOD Carcosa is usually my preference. These are extremely versatile fuzz types. It's really difficult to beat a DOD Carcosa. I absolutely recommend checking it out. I don't use fuzz very often these days.

Once the band is playing all these amps would sound similar enough most people would not notice.

Adam Jones VH4 Channel 3 settings

Absolutely. Recording that I did 20-30 years ago often I have no idea what amp. Because it all just sounds like me. Having said that with the band this week I went from using a Triple Rectifier to a Univalve. Definitely a few differences. I did notice when using two amps at the same time if the...

I love the sound of using two or more amps but the phase issues, stage space, setup time, etc. - just make it impractical for me. I did it for over two decades. As others have mentioned the Marshall is the key. Mixing that with whatever other amp.
