If you have been near the front of the stage at any Tool show the guitar is bright in front of the 4x12 cabs. They play loud. At least at the show's I have been at. If your near the mixing board it sounds a lot more like the album's.

The Hot Mod gain switch is the same as the knob at 1 o'clock and full up. The bass cut has a wider range than the Scary version. Cuts more bass.

Andy Marshall lent me a Hot Mod V2 EVO. I tried it in a 2 channel Mesa Triple Rectifier, Orange OR50 and THD Series One Plexi(69' smallbox clone). I recommend replacing one of the 12AX7 with a 12AT7.

I use a MXR M108S GEQ or Ibanez PTEQ. The PTEQ gives the most control over the sound.

I would get a Hot Mod V2 EVO and replace one of the 12AX7 with a 12AT7. That or just use overdrive pedals.
