As much as I love a LP style guitar I would agree- a H/S/S or H/S/H strat is the Swiss army knife for gigging, ESPECIALLY if you need to cover a lot of sonic territory. This is my #1, with something with a fixed bridge or blocked trem for drop D stuff live.
