Sight unseen and equal condition etc., I'd opt for the '72. It has turret board construction and is probably more desirable from a collector standpoint. If I could play/hear them back to back I may change my mind. I haven't kept pace with current pricing. I have a decent '76 myself but...
That definitely isn't a ringing endorsement. I was really close to pulling the trigger on a PS, think I'll hold off for a minute to see how it shakes out..
So, is this a deal breaker? I have my eye on a Power Station but now I see all the hyperventilating about CS. Should I be concerned about long term reliability?
I would try the graph tech as you mentioned. Also, try tuning the offending string downward to pitch. It goes against conventional tuning wisdom but when it does slip out of tune a quick push down of the whammy bar will bring it back to pitch. There's a lot of technique involved alongside proper...
Aren't all the usual suspects kind of overrated? There's always this ebb and flow of flavor of the month or whatever. Not to mention the occasional cult-like praise in some circles.
Disclaimer: I've been using an SLO pretty much exclusively for about 15 years. ...I'll see myself out. ?
I bought a black one for $134. It was a lot of cash, but I couldn't swing the $6-700 Kramers were going for. I still have it, it's in a Charvel model 2 since the late 80s.
Once you spend a little time with a FR, string changes, setup etc. becomes much easier. They are not difficult if you have a dose of mechanical sense. I wanted, but couldn't afford, a Kramer back in '84 when I was in high school. My solution? Ordered a FR and installed it myself in a POS Strat...
I have owned and gigged both. I had a Rev C I picked up used in '93. ...#43 possibly? It was a very early one and long before anyone was concerned about revisions. (I traded it to a guy from, if memory serves, OH in the late '90s via the old HC forums) I bought an '02 SLO in '08 which I...
It's not for everybody but I love mine. I do agree that it has a slightly lazy attack. If I want something tighter I'll use something else. The SLO arrived in '87 and has remained the same, these modern types of tones weren't on the radar at that point.
