designed by tom holmes for gibson. holmes knows what he's doing. I like them in my 335. They're not right for every guitar or all uses and music, but they're a solid paf style pickup.
I had an 8H that came to me in a Kelley combo. It was a GPA recone with the aluminum cap. It had a very strong personality it imposed on everything. I couldn't come to terms with it. For some super bright clean tones maybe. Some day I'd like to hear the cloth cap version. I've heard those are...
The PS is not an attenuator. It's basically a self contained slaving system where the amp is knocked down to line level and then amped back up with a power amp - with a loop in the middle. I've never used the rock crusher so I can't comment on how they compare when dropping the volume of a loud...
2A is 2x6l6 so 50 watts output. 100 is 2x6550 so an output of 100W. The 100 has 2 independent settings of output, depth and presence you can footswitch between. Other than that, basically the same. I've had both and liked both. Now have the 100 and never switch between the 2 settings.
I’ve had a mk 1 and a mk 2. Wish I’d kept one. They’re unique. I found them to be a more punchy and open SLO type amp. like an slo with more of a jcm800 attitude. The mk 2 had a lot of very useful features for gigging. It was like having the clean/crunch switch of an slo on a footswitch but with...
Jazz III red
Tortex Jazz III purple that I bought dozens of in the 90's and still have a stash of
Blue chip jazz 50
Depends on the guitar and what's within reach at any point in time but any of those in equal preference which is odd considering the price difference
EZ drummer and superior drummer for demos.
Going to try to focus 2024 on actually using what I have to make music. Then reasses what I needed but didn’t have while doing so later in the year.
Don’t plan on any major purchases this year but I’m sure something will end up being bought and sold.
I'll play. Here are my mesas. iic+ HRG and a glorious 4x12. I'm not sure which version of V30's are in this Mesa but that cab sounds incredible with everything.
Lulls. P and 5 string J. I go through this pedalboard. Only ever really use the compressor (never turn it off) and a lot of times the vintage tubes. I don't ever really use the rest. My practice amp is a little fender rumble 40. It's fine. Nothing special but sounds just fine. For recording I...
This. Parts strat with Koa body and Brazilian RW neck and fingerboard. Holmes pickups. Rebuilt by Pete Skermetta. Why? I’ve played it daily for 25+ years, played a ton of gigs with it, it plays great and it sounds great.
Altec 417-8h. Very strong voice. Not for me. I now get how much of a role these played in Randy Rhoads tones and Santana stuff. Once you hear it's voice, you hear it all over those tones.
EV. All of them. I do not understand these for guitar other than sterile clean sounds and over effected...
I'll be moving out of Nashville ASAP. May stay in TN, but Nashville is not enjoyable to be any more and I'm out in a suburb. Not a chance I'd live in Nashville proper.
