No it wasn't the venue. Ratt absolutely sucked live back in the day. It wasn't until the Detonator tour (live video above) where they finally invested in a quality sound guy.
Gearspace: Questions for Michael Wagener
From a Gearspace interview with Michael Wagener:
Gearspace: I had read that the exact same ADA MP-1 Preamp was used, with the same settings and all were used on the albums by Skid Row, Extreme, and White Lion. Yet, all 3 sound different. Was the same...
Yeah I saw this on vacation last month and couldn't wait to get home to try mine out like he has his. He is definitely running into an Ox Box BTW, and undoubtedly using the VH standard setting ('You Really Got Reverb' I believe it's called).
So at any rate, using the same guitar, amp, eq...
Man what a terrible loss! I've known him since the Randall MTS days. Regretfully it's been a while since we last chatted. Danno was always up to talk gear, particularly out of the blue with no notice. Flag will be at half mast at my house for sure.
Fair Winds and Following Seas brother...
I think the grandiose NAMMs are a thing of the past -- the cost is tremendous for so many companies (big and small) already working on very tight margins to justify attending. Hell Friedman was talking recently that the cost was roughly $100K after leasing a spot, paying for set up, etc. And...

At any rate, great post and thanks for sharing.
Yeah and I believe there was another in LA? At any rate, I was there in 2009 and I was blown away. They had everything. Bogners, Diezels, Engls, Cornfords, Elmwoods, Soldanos, Rectos -- you name it. And plenty of sound proof rooms to crank them.
Wow this is fascinating. I just checked out the Instagram page and saw page 2 with EVH etc. My SLO is 90302, so it's in between page 1 and page 2 on that post -- I wonder who originally ordered mine? I actually talked to "the man" once on the phone. It didn't occur to me to even ask if he had...
Hey that's my opinion only -- YMMV. Mercury is great at lower volumes for sure. You wanna borrow it and see what you think? I'm not using it right now and it's actually all boxed up.
