I got two Friedmans, a Twin Sister and a Smallbox50, I’d trade either one for that amp. I also have a Dr Z Maz38. The TS and Maz38 are basically brand new. SB is from….2017, 18?
Totally.
I think a plexi’s versatility comes mostly from the player’s hands, guitar’s volume knob etc. Once you’ve dialed in your base tone, that is.
There’s versatility “in” the amp, but the player has to coax it out via touch, technique, guitar’s controls and so on. There’s a huge array...
I have this same thing from time to time. But I think what happens is my creativity/inspiration goes dormant for a while—then returns with a vengeance!!
Don’t worry brother, amazing shit may be brewing subconsciously, and may come roaring back any time!
Hope it gets better for ya. ?⚡️?
The name, I think that’s it: Marshall is operating on the premise that their “Marshall” logo justifies the bloated price.
Because seriously; put a new Marshall next a new Germino and scrutinize their tone, craftsmanship, durability etc. Wouldn’t even be close.
I don’t know about y’all, but to me Marshall hasn’t been a viable entity since some time in the 80s.
There are just way too many other builders doing it “right.” Germino, Metro, Bray, Morris, Dr Dan and on and on.
Personally, I see no reason to buy a new (post 80s) Marshall—no matter where...
That’s interesting!!
Part of why I’m curious about this is because I have a Bray 4450, it’s 50 watts—but it has 100 watt transformers, (or maybe just the output transformer? I’ll have to check).
Anyways, it sounds and feels spectacular. I’ve been trying to decide if it feels more like a 100...
If someone is saying: two reasonably competent players, strumming a single Am chord, would be clearly distinguishable from each other, that’s hard to fathom.
If they were playing many notes, improvising or something, sure. But one, single chord? I just don’t see what specifically would make one...
To me YJM’s tone is simple: strat and the right Marshall.
Now, if you want to play like him, that’s something else entirely. To do that you gotta cop his style, technique, chops etc.
I’d say we’d recognize their style, chops, techniques etc. I personally wouldn’t call that their “tone.” Shrill vibrato is a technique, not a tone, to me.
To me “tone” is the unique sonic character of one’s rig, and how they’ve set it up and dialed it in. At least that’s how it’s always been...
Recently played my Bray 4550 through my 412 that has GBs and V30s. Killer tone. Busted out my SL68, tried it through same cab. Penis became erect.
I bring this up because I’ve heard guys—some whose opinions I respect—say plexis and V30s don’t get along so well sometimes. Not my experience so...
