This is a bit overdue. Life has been a bit crazy the past couple of months. I bought this for rehearsing with a cover band I was jamming with; that pretty much fell apart on me, but I like the amp enough to hang onto it for a while. I found this locally on marketplace for a fair price.
It has a...
Gibson CS guitars are kind of hit or miss in my experience. If you pick one up that has that thing that draws you in, you should take it home if possible.
I let a few slip past back when they were cheaper, just recently found this 57 RI locally for $3k
I first heard it when I got the G3 live album in high school.
Maybe a year later I got the tab book, spent all of 5 minutes trying to learn it before I gave up. I had no idea what hybrid picking was & had never seen anyone really play like that, so just looking at how those intertwined clean...
I love it.
Honestly it's overkill for my needs, I've got a couple of bucket delay settings that I use 90% of the time. It's just such an easy unit to explore new sounds with it, and very easy to dial in the simple useful tones I use the most.
Long time TU2 user here. It works just fine, not great for low tunings, but gets the job done. I got a TU3 to stick on another board & don’t care for it at all, I have a Peterson I plan to try as a replacement, when I get around to switching it out.
I bought a Polytune 3 mini on another board...
Roll with whatever gets you to what you want to accomplish as a player.
The last year or two, I’ve done a fair amount of cover band jams or playing as an acoustic duo. To do that successfully, I have to learn songs. When I’m not doing that, sometimes I’ll just focus specifically on lead...
Glad you’re digging it man!
I know these aren’t for everyone, but it really is a great sounding amp to my ears. You can do a lot with the clean channel & a few pedals too, I know that’s not a selling point for this amp, but it’s an aspect I overlooked for a long time.
Visually, I see a lot of nice looking examples from that time period for sure.
Not counting the monster flame tops; when I'm browsing used guitars, I consistently see a lot of nice looking tops & backs from that era.
I've got a bunch of the D'Addario Classic Series instrument cables and have been happy with them. Quality is good for the price, and I can usually find whatever length & plug orientation I need for a specific use.
I used a Line 6 M9 for that very purpose for years & was quite happy with it.
The HX effects platform is a pretty solid improvement on that, and is probably where I’d look today.
It took me a good while to get over the visual awkwardness while playing mine.
It didn't help that it was the first 7 string I'd owned in 10 years, my first multi-scale, and first guitar without fret markers.
This one in particular had a pricey set of BKP's that were a big part of the guitars aesthetic. It felt wrong to put some plain black ones in there, and a replacement set would've been quite expensive. At the end of the day, it just made more sense to move onto another guitar altogether.
They look odd, but they have their place.
Functionally they work quite well. They sound just fine if you don’t need a specific LP, Strat, 335 etc kind of tone. They’re comfortable to play. One aspect I liked was how compact they are, practically travel guitar size.
I sold my headless 7 because...
I told myself if I ever saw one of these pop up locally, I'd grab it. The chances didn't seem very likely, but sure enough I came across this on marketplace a few days ago, right here in town. The price was reasonable & seller was very cool. I stopped by to look at it on my way into work...
I love my badlander 50.
It’s somewhere between a Marshall and a recto tone wise, very versatile but it doesn’t sound like any other Mesa. It’s kind of what a lot of folks wanted from the stiletto series, but better all around.
The clean sounds are really good, especially with a little...
