I thought the whole night was awesome. Cannibal Corpse was great! I thought it sounded brutal from the floor. Carcass had the best tone of the night, but lots of snooze riffs lol. Meshuggah was amazing, as always. Killer tones, light show was amazing. So tight and impressive every time. Great show!
I had one for about 9 months. My serial number was 50 lol. I bought it when they were released. Amazing amp. Ultimately went back to the 5150.
There are some things about it that kinda bug me. I wish I could switch between IIC+ and IV modes. I wish it had 2 EQs. And I wish it had the Shred...
The first one was a Fryette D60. I was so stoked to get that amp, and after the first note, I was like...nooooooo this is not what I want at all.
Revv, KSR, Omega, H&K, had similar experiences with all of these amps. The rounder low end is not something I enjoy.
I made IRs years ago, and don't use them anymore. They just don't compete with a mic, for the most part. I recently got the GGD Contenders IR thing, and it is by far the best, most mic'd sounding IRs I've used.
I had like 4 of these at one point. One of my favorite FX pedals. Recently switched my boards over to the Eventide Blackhole. I like being able to have different presets for different things, but one of my presets is dialed to be pretty similar to what I used the DM for.
I can say that the size of the head is relative to the size of the tone lol. It took me a while to get a 100s to compare, but when I did, the 50s went away pretty quick.
l've had so many 5150s over the years. My order, of the ones I've owned, would be this.
The ones I've really liked.
5153 100S (this is my all time favorite amp. The red channel has this weight to it that I love. I have 2 of these.)
5150 212 combo (the most unique and awesome of the Peaveys)...
I had a USA Archon and an MT15 at the same time. I don't remember if mine was 50 or 100. It sounded awesome, and recorded extremely well, but ultimately I sold it because the low end wasn't tight enough. It had a response similar to the OG 5150. It was improved with a boost, for sure, but I...
I had a 5150 50w modded by Kruse some years back. Sounded like a big mess. He shipped it back to me with no preamp tubes and told me all the preamp tubes were bad so he just threw them out. Fucking weird.
No experience with the black heaven, but I have a black winter in a guitar, have had a few Nazguls, and had an M6. The M6 has this more thuddy character to it that's pretty cool vs the BW or Nazgul.
Always mics. I had a Weber Mass back in those days, but I was never happy with the DI sounds. Here is one I did with little man hanging out in the same room. This was 11-12 years ago, I guess.
Clips would be under NinjaRaf on most forums. For whatever reason RT is the only one that's different lol.
I have one tape that my cousin and I recorded with a mic in front of some Marshall cab he had in the 90s. We used our shoes stacked on top of each other to make a mic stand lol. I don't have a tape player, but I will keep that tape forever, especially since he is gone now.
I used to record at low volumes exclusively for a few years after my kid was born, and living in an apartment. Worked better than anything direct for me, as well.
Glad this worked out, and it's going to someone who will appreciate it vs some rando lol! I loved this guitar a lot and played the shit out of it for about 4-5 years, but I have a handful of customs now that I gravitate toward more, so it just kinda sits.
