I'd suggest a quad of classic lead 80s. The newest versions are UK-made, but the MIC versions are killer too.
Also there are the UK-made Mesa 90w black shadow versions that are very close to the same thing.
The Scythe (focus) is actually a big win for anyone wanting a very organic gain/mid-booster.
The term "transparent" gets very overused these days when it comes to boost/od circuits, but these really earn that description because when you engage it you still retain so much of the same...
I love Orgasmatron , but it wasn't originally on Arise, they later added it as a bonus track on later runs.
As for #1 rock anthem of all time,,,,,,,in reality I'd say Juke Box Hero is, but We Will Rock You is more known the world over so maybe it's #1.
I'd say ac/dc should get #1 rock band...
Yeah, great tube source.
A few years back, fortunately before the tube panic I stocked-up on the Mesa coke bottle 420 and the older Chinese Mesa silver square-getter 12ax7. They basically were just standard prices for the day, not priced like NOS.
I much prefer the SOH tone because it's darker and thicker IMO. RIB sounds too crystal clear for me,,,really brash and trebly, but that does fit the tone I think of as "thrashy".
Most people haven't even heard an X2N set properly. On most superstats you need a flat/neck ring at the bridge and the pickup needs set down almost flush with the ring, depending on the strings and action of course. You have to set it by fretting each string individually at the very highest fret...
Why did they stop the Lynchbacks? Did he get another deal and Celestion lost rights?
I've never read anyone who has played them say anything other than great things. Still wish I would have got a new pair when they were fresh and cheap.
What about the original vfe focus?
It's IMO a better standout because you can set the lows/hpf to roll-off steeply, and the highs to slope shallow, which to my ears always sounds better even if you use little filtering anyways. Having the mix control is great for these.
