I have a 101b from 2019 but haven’t played an older version so have nothing to compare it to. I thought I saw mention of a change post-2004, which made the red channel a little more compressed, tighter and gainier? Not sure there have been any other official revisions since then but I suspect...
Sorry dude - I didn’t mean to misrepresent what you were saying (the problem with trying to summarise). All I was trying to point out is that you were very honest/balanced in your thoughts, which can be rare when it comes to gear of this cost/rarity etc., so there was no obvious reason for Reza...
Sounds like he was going to ask Dave Friedman to mod the amp? Seems a bit odd to me - pay all that money for a unique amp and send it off for a mod? Why not ask Larry to tweak whatever he wanted tweaking? Perhaps Larry said no? I guess you can do what you want with your own amp, but I can...
Not sure Larry should be too bothered about an amp of his being seen be Dave Friedman. Dave’s been quite vocal in the past about what he thinks of those who clone other builder’s circuits, so would he have really plagiarised Larry’s work? Also, wouldn’t Dave have the time, knowhow and resources...
The irony is that Reza was happy to drop a dismissive comment like that on @Techdeth’s post and yet seems to get offended if people drop comments about his tones on his posts. Seems a bit hypocritical.
Also, @Techdeth was hardly bragging, shilling or being over-effusive about the Larry. We all...
I really don’t get some people. If he has that opinion then fine, but if he feels the need to share it he should go share it with the guy who built it, not the guy who bought it. I have a feeling Larry wouldn’t be quite as polite as @Techdeth in his reply….
I use an EQ in the loop of my Stiletto. The boost out front tightens up the low end but the amp isn’t be blessed with a tonne of that to begin with, so I use the EQ to add it back in again and enhance it a bit post-gain, so I get tightness plus low end. The rest of the frequencies are set to...
I’d love a Ground Zero Marshall (Sniper) and one of his Rectifiers (assuming I had the cash, of course). UK/Europe you have Dan Gower and Hermansson. In Australia you have Jason at Headfirst. @FourT6and2 does some great work so I hear, and there’s also Hopkins (I assume both US-based?) and...
Sounds great - I’m 6 string only and when you swapped to the Gibson I thought, “Yep, that’s my bag”. Thanks for posting and congrats on the amp - glad you’re enjoying it 👍
This isn’t anything that hasn’t been covered, but if this person is going to get that upset over something so trivial, I wouldn’t have high hopes of things going well in the long term when it comes to touring commitments or the creative process etc….
For me it’s:
Tony Iommi
Billy Gibbons
Pete Townshend
Adam Jones
Jerry Cantrell
These are the 5 with the stylistic traits I can most easily pick out in my own playing.
