Early Def Leppard does it for me as far as the Marshall rock tone goes. I'd say it's just a slightly improved ac/dc tone really. The difference is probably just the pickups they used.

12v ACA-style pedals will run perfectly off of a PSA adapter, or any 9v as long as they are daisy-chained with at least one regular 9v pedal in the chain also.

There are multiple buffers in a Boss pedal. The input buffers are fine, it is the output buffers that are lacking for driving long runs. The output buffer doesn't matter unless it is the last pedal before the cable that goes to the amp. Boss uses the fet-style buffers that do not stack-up well...
