Distortion pedals have come such a long way in recent years. I still prefer amp gain by a mile, but there are some pedals that really sound fantastic with a good clean amp.

I bought & sold a few old 5150’s over the years. I finally found a reasonable deal on another one & this one is staying.

The radio stations overplaying it became obsolete & people actually want to hear it sometimes.

I played Duncans pretty much exclusively for the longest time, and always kept one guitar around with EMG’s. More recently I’ve taken a liking to BKP, Fralin & Suhr pickups in a few of my guitars.

Every splawn I’ve played has to get stupid loud to really shine. Stupid loud on their 50 or 100w amps isn’t terribly high on the master volume.

Not as much is I probably should, at least on higher gain settings. I tried it with the lower gain side on the Tone of Kings & it was ok, the Tim V3 on the board set for a bit of boost & eq change worked pretty well. I really should break out some of my other dirt pedals and give them a try in...

Happy 4th. Haven’t talked much about it, but I’m still really loving the tone of kings.

I’m kind of there right now. I’m out of useable space, to the point that I won’t buy anything without having something in mind to sell.

It’s so easy to find a nice preloaded strat p/g, going that route would be a no brainer to me. The parts emporium on TGP has some really great used ones pop up from time to time, if you’re not wanting to drop a bunch of cash on a setup you’re unsure of.

I do need to try the thinner pick thing more. I have some around & I do find they sound better for that type of tone, I just don’t focus on it as much as I could.

I can never get it either. I can make most of the intro sound alright, but that harmonic is never even close.

A basic preamp will work. I’ve got an ancient LR Baggs Para that I bought used forever ago.
