Distortion pedals have come such a long way in recent years. I still prefer amp gain by a mile, but there are some pedals that really sound fantastic with a good clean amp.
MacBook, Logic, Scarlett 2i2 & some M Audio monitors.
I was between mic’ing amps & using neural plugins for the longest time, I think the reactive load ir setup I have now is a good happy medium between the two.

I played Duncans pretty much exclusively for the longest time, and always kept one guitar around with EMG’s.
More recently I’ve taken a liking to BKP, Fralin & Suhr pickups in a few of my guitars.

Just the other day I was recording some lead parts & was very happy with the tone, so much so that I left my entire rig untouched for a few days to do some more tracking.
Same guitar, not a single knob touched, and suddenly everything sounds noticeably darker & less...
Honestly I kind of have days where I feel like that on the drive modes, then days where I’ll grab a certain guitar & it just sits wonderfully in this tonal space none of my other amps do.

Not as much is I probably should, at least on higher gain settings. I tried it with the lower gain side on the Tone of Kings & it was ok, the Tim V3 on the board set for a bit of boost & eq change worked pretty well.

It’s so easy to find a nice preloaded strat p/g, going that route would be a no brainer to me.
The parts emporium on TGP has some really great used ones pop up from time to time, if you’re not wanting to drop a bunch of cash on a setup you’re unsure of.
I do need to try the thinner pick thing more.
I have some around & I do find they sound better for that type of tone, I just don’t focus on it as much as I could.
