Heya. Thought you might get a kick out of this video I did:
I go through some Axe FX III effects and different channel combinations and what not. Bit different to the usual YT amp review video.
Going through a thing now with my Diezel's.... where I'm just not quite enjoying them. I have the Hagen, D-Moll, and a 2001 VH4.
I'm tending to prefer my Dual Rectifier, 6505+, and JVM at the moment.
Getting a Mesa Mark V next week.... might flog the VH4..... not 100% sure.
I've got a D-Moll and 2001 VH4, and I've got a Hagen which I borrowed. There's a lot of overlap, and honestly, I don't think I really love any of them anymore. Once was a time where Diezel was the brand I'd go to, but ever since getting a 6505+, a Dual Rectifier, and a Satch JVM.... those...
My 2001 did always feel a bit undergained. I guess I know why now. My amp has some differences to the one in your video @hellzington but nothing too significant. These were my notes from when I discussed this with a mate when you put your video out.
- Hollowed out logo.
- Power switches. Mine...
Yeah, I think you're spot on actually. That is exactly what I hear. I wouldn't mind checking out a Rivera, but getting them in the UK... ehhh... very slim chance from what I can tell!
I'm sure I read an article once that said Joe Barresi has a particular Peavey amp he loves that he tries to use on everything. Might not be a 5150. Might be a Bandit for all I know.
But the intro to Jambi for example, sounds very little like a VH4 to me. I've got a similar era VH4 and it sounds...
I've got a Boo Instruments 808 clone, which is pretty sick to boost any high gain amp. I've also got the Boss SD1-waza. I'm looking at getting a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe as well.
Tonocracy has just gone free, and has some capture tech built into it. It also supports NAM I believe. So might be a more user friendly way to capture your own amps?? You'd need to add an effects package though, because it doesn't really have good effects.
I have a range of ToneX captures here...
Interesting. I've never read that to be honest.
For me, my 2001 VH4 isn't "dark" as such. But the low-end is quite different to that of my JVM and Dual Rectifier, for example.
Some of my friends have described it as being kind of like a fuzz pedal, and I sort of see where they're coming from...
Right... so for the clean channel. Not really relevant to "Joanz Toanz" in that case????
Channel 3 differences are what I'm most interested in tbh.
No idea!
I've already replaced the hum-pot with resistors, and I have replaced the midi chip and associated capacitors. I also did the...
I know my 2001 Silverface sounds markedly difference to the clips I've heard of the 2010+ Silverfaces.
But from what I've read, the early 2000's Silverfaces aren't any different schematic-wise to the Blueface models. Would *love* to know if that is true though.
It is what it is. In this shootout, I prefer Hagen, VH4, D-Moll....
But I've gigged the D-Moll so many times over the last 8 years or so, and I know I like. Genuinely think I just dialled it in a bit poorer than the others.
