    Anyone using PAF-types for Metal?

I played the Fishman Classic in someone else’s guitar once. It definitely hits harder and is more immediate than the other passive PAF-style pickups I’ve played, but I really dug it. It made me want to slap some in one of my guitars. But yeah, I’ve been digging stuff in the PAF camp lately as...

    NGD - Framus Stormbender

Very cool. I’ve been curious about those as well. The pic is there, but you have to open it to see it.

    Tighter JB?

If I was looking for a tighter JB, I'd probably take a serious look at the Duncan Thrash Factor. It's supposedly a tighter JB with less low end. More highs too. Whether they're more sizzly or not, I don't know.

    Carstens Grace Speaker Comparison! (Video)

Thanks for doing that. Here's how I would rank them per category: Clean - Carsten, Mesa, Friedman, Diezel, Marshall Mid Gain - Casten, Mesa & Friedman tied, Marshall, Diezel High Gain - Carsten & Mesa tied, Marshall, Friedman, & Diezel The Carsten & Mesa cabs were the clear winners for me, but...

Pickup recommendations for my PRS SC250

To me the \m/ actually sounds like what you'd get if you took a PAF and made it super tight & high output while keeping the openness, attack, and clarity of a lower output PAF. It's really quite impressive how they managed it. The mid range openness is really impressive considering its output...

Pickup recommendations for my PRS SC250

What you’re describing really sounds like a job for the PRS \m/ (Metal). It flys under the radar for some reason. No bass flub in that one at all. It’s a tight pickup with a prominent attack. It has a bit of a mid push, but not a pinched nasally type of push - it’s very open. I have yet to play...

Best passive bridge PU for a tight and aggressive low end?

Here are some I've played that can do that tight, percussive thing well. At the end of the day, though, it will just depend on what your guitar likes. Lundgren M6 Lundgren Ceramic Black Heaven Duncan Jupiter Rails PRS MTL PRS Tremonti If you're dialing in a lot of low end on the amp...

    Drum Plugins and Amp Plugins

EZdrummer 3 for drums. For amp sims, I find the Neural Nameless and Granophyre pretty easy to get solid tones out of. I prefer to use them with different IR’s, but the stock ones aren’t bad. The Petrucci is solid as well and has effects, which is nice.

    Phaser location?

Pre 100% for me. The effect will be much more pronounced in the loop, but it also tends to make your core sound disappear. Particularly if you're playing with others. In front, the effect is less prominent and tends to merge with the core tone more. Flangers I also like in front, but if you're...

Indecisive so help me choose my next NGD

The right pickup spacing from the bridge on the 10 string would have me a little unsure without playing it first. It has a reverses P look, so I get what they're going for in theory. However, I'd be worried it wouldn't give the typical bridge pickup response most would want from the higher 6...

Mark VII vs IV vs IIC+ vs IIB comparo project!

Ultimately, I prefer mic'd clips. Especially if you're talking about hearing more subtle differences. However, I totally understand that getting a good mic'd tone is a bit maddening at times. Your room acoustics can fool you and then on top of that small mic placement and eq changes can have a...

    Practicing with increasing BPMs

Depends really. If I’m simply warming up, I will likely increase anywhere from 10-20. When I’m getting closer to my top end it’ll be 5-10.

    New Extreme

I think the solo is awesome and the riffs in the chorus and bridge are cool as well. Unfortunately, the vocals throughout the tune cheese it up quite a bit and the verse & pre chorus riffs feel pretty uninspired. Nuno's playing is killer, though, and it's nice that it actually sounds like a...

Has anyone tried this Celestion Speaker?

Oh I totally get why it's done. That's why I suggested following it up with a comparison of them all sounding their best. That way you can hear the direct comparison and then the difference between them dialed in better. I hear this and the hemp cone sounds distant and fizzy. And who knows...

Has anyone tried this Celestion Speaker?

Me as well. Problem is that with comparisons like this (same settings with a 57 dead center) make it hard to get a full read on things, though. I get that it's done to show what differences only the speakers bring, but one or more usually sound way "off" when you have such different sounding...

    Accept. Always amazing tone

Yes, I read something from Sneap where he said Blood of the Nations was mostly 5153 and the matching cab. I believe I read the same thing about Blind Rage as well but can’t find it.

Omega Obsidian: Am I missing something?

How does it do with clean tones? The website says it does them and is a great pedal platform, but so far I've only heard it dialed in dirty.
