I mostly was using it DI, as I purchased it as a use quietly at home or break glass in case of fire into the PA for gigs. I did however try it into the return of my Laney GH50L, and preferred the amps own preamp by a large margin.

While not the J, I had an IR-X for awhile and it sounded ok, but was kind of bland. So if you can definitely try before you buy.

I kind of think the best thing you could get would be whatever guitar you want, everything wired up, but with no pickup. Because thats the thing that I want to be able to tweak in the end and try a few options.

I agree, I quickly noticed that it sounds like he's being working on the vocals, which is cool. Definitely White Lion vibe, right down to the thought out guitar solo. Nice to hear.
