Hey guys,
I'm curious if anyone has tried a Port City ported cabinet?
I'm probably gonna try to get a hold of a pre owned one this summer or a Genz Benz G-Flex.
I hear ya!
All my cabs have Redbacks now. Bogner 412 and 212 all Redbacks. I still have one 412, with Redbacks/V30s and a 212 with Redback/CL80 for variety.
I used to love my Dual Rec into V30/K100, as it was very throaty, but I'm not doing the Dual Rec mush these days.
I talked to Celestion and they suggested an X pattern. I think it's really personal.
Good point on the slant vs straight guys. Also depends on the speaker models as you said. I don't have any slant top cabs, only straight or slanted baffle.
That said, I decided to go all 4 Redbacks in my...
I think it depends on the speaker and player. I actually spoke to Bogner about this and their testing with the V30/T75 and preferred the X. I did the same with my RB/V30 and it's jaw dropping how good at rehearsal and shows so I'm staying. But we all hear things differently. :)
Nigel,
Good report bro.
I have Redbacks and Creamback 65d in my Bogner 412 in an X pattern. You have me tempted to try two M65s on top.
I am aloa tempted to go two V30s with the Redbacks like in my other 412. Love that blend.
I often feel like a heavier magnet provides a thicker tone, as leads...
To this day, Redback/V30(UK) is the best blend I have ever used I've used my fair share from Celestions, Fane, WGS and a few others. CL80/30 I enjoyed as well.
I like the Creamback as I've tried both the M65 and H75, but much prefer the Redback.
Thanks, that's what I was hoping. Wasn't sure if there were other standard V30s with the same cone, but I'll check.
That's what I was gonna do, open up the can and compare. Thanks.
Guys,
Is there any easy way to determine which V30 in my Splawn is an English V30 and which is a Mesa English V30?
I installed them a few years ago and didn't pay attention to the cones.
I recently got another pre-owned Mesa V30 I was gonna drop in to pair with the other Mesa V30.
Would it...
Yep, I used a Rio BBQ for years but when I tried the Aldrich and then tried the BBQ again, I preferred the Aldrich. Just seemed richer and thicker and definitely hotter. But, personal preference. If my Aldrich had a touch more low push, it would be perfect. It's fine, otherwise it's great. I...
Hey gents....
I've been using Celestion Redback and Creamback M65 speakers in my Bogner 412. Sounds great and you would think there would be a volume issues but I don't hear that. Standing in front of the cab, I don't think you could hear each speaker and a volume issue. I just hear the end...
I like the Aldrich in my LP and love it in my PRS SC. My LP has a lot of natural mids, is 8.6 lbs and very resonant. I think it would do best with a darker pickup, alnico most likely with good low end push.
Tried BBQ, too weak.
Have it in my Alder CE22 which is a heavy guitar for a DC. Sounds thick and mean.
Also in my SC250.
Also have an SC250 set that to my ears, sounds the same.
What are PSykes pickups?
I'm loving the Tremonti Bridge, 15+ k and fat, chunky and balanced. PRS claims it's their darkest pickup but I just find it balanced and thick, filled with richness.
Definitely find ceramics to be thicker and to have more texture. In the end, magnet is a tiny piece of thr puzzle.
If you talk to the Duncan custom shop, they will tell you a ceramic mag will tend to add thickness, complexity and texture.
