A saw them a few weeks ago in Dallas - top 5 show all time for me. Probably the loudest large venue show I've ever seen but you could still hear everything clear as a bell. Probably helps that I was basically right in front of the sound guys all night.
Interesting that he didn't have his...
Yeah, looks like a mini VH2 which makes perfect sense from a small footprint/cost perspective. I've never played a VH2 but the VH4 is one of my favorite amps of all time. I've heard VH2 sounds a little more produced/less raw than VH4, will be interesting to see how the mini sounds.
Depends on the month (or day, in some cases). Fortunate to have a bunch of cool amps here and I change it up often.
Right now I'm really, really digging the Orange Rockerverb MkIII which didn't come close to making my top 5 when that thread came up a few months ago. Bright, aggressive...
Check out Sonic Drive Studio on YouTube (he also posts here on occasion). He did an interview with the dude from Lichtlaerm specifically about the new amp.
I think it does. VHX is still a stout 100w power section and it's still analog - the digital brain of that amp doesn't impact things like bigness to my ear. I haven't run VH4 and VHX side by side with something like a switcher to be sure but VHX feels plenty powerful to me and doesn't sound...
These things are always tough because people hear things differently, we all play differently with different signal chains etc. I own a '22 VH4, '23 Herbert Mk3 and '21 VHX so I can give my quick impressions:
VH4 is the only one of the three I will never get rid of. People talk about the...
Email Jason Tong at Headfirst (headfirst.amplification@gmail.com). You'll pay him and he will fulfill the order but it will be shipped by Shea from the US.
I just did this - it was extremely easy. Just think of it as Headfirst having a distribution center in the US.
For some reason people feel like they need to justify why they're selling something. "If it's not good enough for me then why would someone else buy it" - simpletons.
Nobody cares why you're selling the amp. I never have at least as long as the amp is accurately described in the listing.
I have one of these - apparently I'm on a quest to play every high gainer ever made and Kraken has been on the list for awhile. Stayed away from Mk I for whatever reason but grabbed the new one from Sweetwater.
This amp is pretty insane. 50 watt, 3 channel amp at 20 something pounds. It's...
What are the pickups like in these? You guys enjoying the stock ones or are you swapping them out?
I love the shape and EBMM's stuff in general but still haven't heard a clip that sounded good to me yet.
That sounds fantastic. To this day the best Youtube amp demo I've ever seen was Pete Thorn playing through a Trainwreck Liverpool. I couldn't believe how good it sounded.
How much do the Komet's run new? Guessing they're in Wizard territory.
I think they're different enough to own both. Voicing is a bit different and I feel like the Tremo has a little more gain. That being said, I actually prefer the Multi-Watt but most of that is just because it's a smaller, lighter package with more versatility and still does the Recto thing. I...
1. JCM800 2203: Open, dynamic, jagged, raw and aggressive as hell. Dumb amounts of versatility for a single channel with a few pedals. Guitar volume roll off for clean, pushed clean, light crunch. Depending on your choice of boost you can go 80's modded Marshall to modern metal...
Shit, forgot I even started this thread - thanks all for the recs, much appreciated.
Lately it's mostly been the 2203 with a King in Yellow or SD1 (or both) up front. Pedals off for crunch and them combinations of the boosts for thrash to modern heavy tones. I really never cared much about...
Headfirst Alta will do all of that and more. Three channels, dual masters, voicing/bright switches. Plexi to modded tones. All MIDI as well if you ever want to go down that road.
Not worth it to me. Prohibitively expensive with very limited options in the custom shop.
RE: LTD - I've had good and bad Indonesian LTDs. I've never had a bad Korean LTD.
Also worth checking out E-II. Basically a Japanese made standard. $2-$3K depending on model. I have an M-I from 2021...
Probably a question for TGP but what the hell...I've recently fallen in love with single channel amps (2203, Skeleton Key, Diezel BigMax) and starting to explore running a two amp rig with a switcher.
I can get nice cleans out of the above by rolling off the guitar volume (and I love playing...
For classic 90s/00s metal - TS9/808. It's like it was made for that amp.
For modern, I like the Precision Drive - you can dial brightness/attack and get it extremely modern but it's still usable tuned standard (unlike a 33 style circuit)
